Sounds like a rumor that got out of control.

If they're trying to cast this movie to attract fan-girls they're taking the wrong approach. It's the wrong material for that sort of stuff.

So much news on this lately... it's as if this movie is actually going to happen.

PSH yeah right, how many anime have been slated for Hollywood films and actually gotten past an announcement? >.>

Two if you count Speed Racer, the other being DBZ. There might be a few more?

Aeon Flux was an American series by a Korean dude, so that wouldn't count. (Even though Peter Chung used his unique and often hated, but loved by me, art style when he did the character designs for the Reign: The Conqueror anime series)

Robert Pattinson is awesome. Not only is he a not-really-in-the-closet Twilight hater, but he's also an admitted Anime fan.

True or not, I don't think Joaquin Phoenix would be a good idea anyway. Last I heard, his mind has gone bye-bye....>.>;;;

Didn't know he was in Harry Potter. Anyway, I'll never get this chance again, so.... Cool

There was also Guyver back in the early 90's. And a Gundam movie, G-Saviour, although that was a made-for-tv movie so I don't know if that counts.

Aeon Flux wouldn't count--American-made for MTV and all--but there are other examples of anime-based films produced in Hollywood. They're just usually low-profile or best left forgotten.

Ah, right, Guyver. Totally forgot about that.

And now I'm extremely shocked about G-Saviour. I don't know too much about it, so I always assumed it was a Japanese film.

No vampires on motorcycles, please.

I don't hate Twilight or Pattinson; I just don't think he'd be right for the part. Obviously he's not excited about or more than remotely interested in the project.

Hopefully this does mean that those short-lists that got posted everywhere were just a rumor.[/i]

You can add Fist of the North Star to that list. Joaquin Phoenix is 36, I think that's a little old to be playing Kaneda.

Wasn't it Canadian/Japanese co produced? Anyway you can count Guyver twice, it had a sequel.

If Pattinson is an anime fan, or a fan of Akira, then why in the article is "loves" in quotation marks? When something is in quotation marks, it usually implies something, and its not always great.

I'm sure Pattinson is a nice person, but his acting isn't great. Although I have some respect for him because I'm told he doesn't actually like Twilight, I have to question why he even starred in the movie. Yeah I know, money, but come on. Why be in something you hate?
