Well, at least he has a valid reason. Unlike some other guys we know *cough* Togashi *coughcough* Miura...
Get well soon, Mr. Eiichiro Oda.
I wonder if the guys over at Shueisha are in ultra-panic-mode right now.

He more than probably does but this ain't going to help him: his workload is just postponed (meaning he'll probably will have to work even harder after his recovery as it isn't only the manga he works on) and you can't fully rest when you have tonsilittis (I know had the most F#@|!? fever nightmares ever from it) and he's got a complication of it requiring surgery.

Gotta respect manga artists. The workload always gets them sick (Hiatuses. Hiatuses everywhere) but they still keep going for the fans.

Sadly, manga artists are put under a lot of pressure especially when on a weekly schedule giving them very little time for themselves. A lot of mangakas end up sick, going on break because they can't take the workload or eventually opt for a monthly (or irregular) schedule. That's why Osamu Akimoto's performance (if I dare call it like that...) is incredible : holding on to a weekly schedule for 36+ years and over 1700 chapters is staggering, most mangakas would struggle to make it half way through that.

Get well soon.
With so many mangaka getting sick so often, it makes me wonder how Osamu Akimoto, creator of Kochikame, never seems to get ill.
Apparently, he's gone 30 years without going on a break once.

He needs to rest.
Hopefully during that downtime he'll think about making Nami less of a bitch.
