Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum and I just wanted to ask for an opinion on the way I am.

A few days ago, I finished watching the whole series of "Elfen Lied" and two days later (yesterday), watched "The Place Promised in our Early Days". "Elfen Lied" made me cry slightly (the last episode. The way the characters are drawn are so cute that I weep when they were happy!) And the same happened with "Place Promised".

Both have left me feeling a bit depreesed or saddened. Is this normal? Is it normal to be this overly sensative to animes? Will I get over such feelings for anime? I feel kind of weird to be this way. Animes just have a look and feel that goes right to my heart...

Is this normal?

Heh, I sometimes do the same thing. But i dont exactly feel saddened or anything like that for long. I might feel sad for awhile when I'm watching the anime but not during school or something like that... (Does that make any sense?? Anime catgrin + sweatdrop )

Yeah, pretty normal, anime does a better than average job of making you feel for the characters, at least the ones that do are some of my personal favorites anyway.

Ehh its normal. I guess I do feel saddened abit and sometimes during school but then that changes once I meet up with my friends. But after I part with my friends the feeling of sadness sorta returns and I can't stop thinking of the sad stuff.

We're not talking about being sad in everyday life, we're talking about become emotionally upset when watching anime.

Most anime fans could probably share similar experiences with you, daftkd909. It's pretty normal, although the titles that turn on the tears can vary from fan to fan. (The end of the first season of Mahoromatic always does it for me, for instance.)

There's even a couple of entire threads out there about this topic. Try Trying not to cry for one.

I haven't seen "The Place Promised in our Early Days", but I know Elfen Lied is very radical and powerfull. Seeing as to what lengths the director went through to cringe out emotions from the viewer, I wouldn't be too surprised if people actually got mad/fearfull/depressed by watching it.

Animated can really work on our emotions by using relatively abstract imagery. I can remember watching Watership Down when I was a child, I had nightmares for months, even years. And with that, I was already used to all of the live action horror shows of ravens plucking eye balls out of living people etc.

It's just that I have this sadness inside me because of watching the two even after a day or two. Will this feeling pass eventually?

I think you're better off asking that to a psychiatrist.

Yes, it's normal. Don't worry, you'll be ok Very Happy I can't even count the number of times I've cried over it, either because I'm a sentimental fool, or I've seen a lot of anime, or both. Check the other thread to hear our sob stories.

It depends on the person, and the anime, but I've often had this feeling that you describe - of walking around in a dazed, emotionally spent state for several days after the conclusion of a particularly emotional anime.

It's not limited to anime, though. For instance, Hotaru no Haka / Grave of the Fireflies does it to me, every time I see it - but I get the same effect from watching The Elephant Man.

It can and should occur with any story that you truly get involved in. Anime just has a tendency to give you more endings to cry about than other genre's, unfortunately it's in my experience that anime also tends to give you more endings that are disappointing as well.
