Well, it's not the best of Case Closed movies, but I definitely think that it was better than Carlos appears to. However, I do have to agree that it's primarily the London stuff which was good, and it made up a lot less of the film than I expected it to. So maybe I more or less agree with Carlos but don't feel as strongly about it. The movie was still a lot of fun. Just don't expect a masterpiece, but then again Case Closed movies aren't the place to look if you're looking for masterpieces. They tend to be a lot of fun, but they're not the best. You watch them because they're fun, not because they're masterpieces. Still, I really liked this film, as much as the beginning (in particular) needed some work.

As for the dub, I thought that it was as good as it always is. Like all Case Closed, if you want the most accuracy, watch the subs. I think that that's a given at this point. However, they (like with all of the more recent Case Closed movies released) no longer attempted to claim that the story takes place in the US or anything like that. They even correctly explained one of the puns which involved kanji rather than coming up with a new, English one themselves. It's primarily the names that changed, but do you really expect them to change them to the originals this far into the game? Personally, I quite enjoy the English cast and thought that they did a good job. I usually watch the dub and then will watch portions subbed (or at least with the subs running alongside the dub) if I really want to see more accurate translations.

In any case, I thought that it was a fun film. It's far from perfect, but it was worth well picking up, and I liked it lot. I hope that the recent films have done well enough that they'll bring more over (especially the recent Lupin II vs Detective Conan special), and maybe even more of the show, which unfortunately, apparently hasn't been selling very well, even with the cheap boxed sets.

By the way, as for Sherlock Holmes himself, he spoiler[did technically show up at the end to give a hint, albeit briefly], but they seem to have taken the tact of using Conan as Sherlock Holmes' replacement, and having Sherlock Holmes around much wouldn't have made that work very well. It is a bit odd for him to be around so little, but they would have had to tell the story very differently had they wanted him around much. If nothing else, then you'd have competition between Conan and Sherlock as to who would be finding the clues and solving the mystery. And that could have been a problem. With the right story, it could have been done, but they seem to have preferred to go the route of having Conan more or less replace Sherlock Holmes rather than work with him.

A fairly silly action movie with Detective Conan in it for some reason.
