Minna is supposed to mean a manga that can be enjoyed by anyone, young or old, male or female.

I just heard about it today.

Any examples?

Minna is just the Japanese term to refer to "everyone" in a general group of people. If someone uses it for manga, then I guess whoever put that label on it is meaning to say the manga is for "everyone" as well. I've never heard of this genre, though, so I can't really suggest what titles would be a good example. I just wanted to let you know what the word means (at least I hope I got it right.. Anime smallmouth).

It probably equates to "G" in movie ratings. I think you could lob most of the Ghibli movies under this, for example. Pokemon, too. And so on.

Not for Princess Mononoke. Contains spoiler[mutilation of body parts].

I think you could, actually. Not so much for the content, but the sort of reverence that Miyazaki specifically and Ghibli receive for thier works. Sure, Mononoke gets violent, and there probably be a footnote in the encyclopedia about it, but becuse Miyazaki and Ghibli's works can reach across to people who are fans, not fans, men, women, etc.

Yes, but Mononoke has enough content in there that it's just not going to be appropriate for young children.

Still, most of the Ghibli films should be fine under the everyone category.

When I first brought up the word "minna" in this post, it was as a demographic indicator, not an age rating (which we already have). So what demographic would you put Mononoke in? Shounen? Seinen? I don't think so. "Minna" is probably the most accurate to describe Mononoke, but maybe balanced with a "teenager" age rating. Basically, I guess you can think of "minna" as "mainstream".

I've often thought that we ought to do away entirely with the demographic indicators. The actual genres (e.g. Romance, Comedy, Action, etc.) should be sufficient in and of themselves. Combined with the age rating, there is no further need for narrowing the focus.

Consider also how often the Encyclopedia Staff has to spend time removing inappropriate demographic indicators, posted by users without a full understanding of them. That time could be more profitably spent otherwise.
