Hi, i am looking for some anime to watch(well duh...) but I have no idea what titles would fit the bill. let me explain what I want to see.

(also following the listing rules and what I want, give a reason or a brief synopsis)

I really like 'out of place' stories, you know the kind of thing where a person is sent back in time and has no idea what is happening or is sent to an alternate dimension or location.

I have seen junni kokki(12 kingdoms) and that was great can you think of any other titles that fit this kind of 'out of place' theme?

I would recommend Escaflowne or Inu Yasha. They both have the "out of place" idea that you are looking for.

In Escaflowne, A high school girl, Hitomi is transported from Earth to the magical world of Gaea, where she meets boy prince Van Fanel, and is caught up in his quest to unite the countries of Gaea against the ominous Zaibach empire.

In Inu Yasha, A high school girl, Kagome is transported back to feudal Japan. She meets and half demon there Inu Yasha and the set out on a quest to recover the broken pieces of a sacred jewel.

Abenobashi, Fushigi Yugi (sp?) Escaflowne and Inu-Yasha all have people traveling to alternate worlds.

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi is a great series. The characters are sent into alternate versions of their own world, each with some random boyhood fantasy theme. The show is hilarious, but it also has random tender moments that arise.

You want Spirited Away.
Although not everyone likes it is a really enjoyable movie about a girl having to work in a BathHouse runned by shinto gods in order to save her parents and herself.

I will wholeheartedly suggest Fushigi Yuugi as well. And here's a thread I made after I finished viewing it, just in case you want more detail.

Vision of Escaflowne is good too. Try this thread for some insight.

As for Inu Yasha though, it's quite long and has its pacing problems, but fits exactly what you're looking for. I like the action when there is any, but for the most part it plays more like a comedy and bad shounen romance with drama in between that never really resolves anything.

Another is Magic Knight Rayearth.
It is about these three junior high girls who are destined to become the Magic Knights, and are summoned to the world of Cephiro by the Princess Emeraude to save and bring peace to the magical world.

I also would highly recommend Escaflowne (which you can buy the movie, though a little different, instead of buying the whole series). This is a more Action/Drama series.

Unlike Abenobashi ( an excellent anime), which is a more of a Comedy/Action/Drama.

Oh, I love Juuni Kokki!! Finally, another fan! :)

I'd also reccomend Fushigi Yuugi. Inu Yasha is alright, but it doesnt' live up to all of the hype that gets. I also reccomend Rayearth, it's a very well-done series. There are more manga I could reccomend too (*cough* Planet Ladder *cough*) , but this isn't the right section.

What about El Hazard? The OVA, not the series.

With the Fushigi Yuugi re-release, that's probably not a bad idea. In fact, what little I saw of 12 kingdoms reminded me a lot of that show. Escaflowne seemed to me to be very similar as well.. Inuyasha, however, is very different (to me) than those shows. IY seems to be more action oriented while the others seem more "drama first". Keep in mind IY is the only one that I've seen more than 3 eps of, though. Maybe that's just my opinion.

One thing that is deffinately a fact, though, is IY is (almost) IMPOSSIBLE to own. 3 eps per disc at 160+ eps is a horrible deal. U could probably own BOTH Escaflowne and Fushigi Yuugi for $300-ish.

Check out Haibane Renmei. It definitely fits your "out of place" bill, but I must say it's a bit slow-paced through the first few episodes. A great, very unique series. (psst! Look up Haibane in the encyclopedia! Idea It's easier to tell you that than to type a synopsis. Wink )

Ones that I recommend are Spirited Away, it is exactly what you are looking for! The main character has no idea where she is, but throughout the story she is growing more used to it and more fond of it, it is really fantastic. Another is Haibane Renmei, one of my favourite seires ever! Although there isn't much fantasy action I guess.
One that isn't really a different dimension or world is .Hack//Sign or //Legend of the Twilight. You could say that the main characters do know where they are and how they got there, but the setting is a parallel world and it is a different dimension.
One that i have read not seen is Escaflowne, but by reading what other people have been saying in this thread, it seems the manga and anime is the same. But I highly recomend that.
Another more subtle one is Arjuna, the main character dies but comes back to life with a vision of how the Earth is destroyed etc. etc. She is still on Earth but she's not exactly what she used to be. Although it isn't such a great series, it still could be what you're looking for. Hope that helps. Wink

I do not know if you've seen it but I recommend Rahxephon. The main character is out of place although not technically in a different time period

If you like those kind of storylines I think you'll like Neon Genesis. While the first 4 dvds are a bit slow, if you hang in there you will be rewarded for your patience.
