I'm confused. The article seems to imply that the Hollywood adaptation is going to be an animated film; I was under the assumption it was live-action

Man, first the Shin-Chan creator dies and now this. Futabasha's got it tough this year.
Hed: I'm guessing that an animated Oldboy was an option if the live-action film didn't pan out, or if it was in fact successful. Anyway, it sounds like the company thought it got Futabasha's consent, when it really only got the ok of Show East. So it might not actually win the case, because Futabasha may not have been a knowing party to any deals made between the Korean version and the Spielberg version. An American film company was going to do an animated feature? Tragedy averted I guess.

Well it's not like Disney was going to pick it up. SONY would be thru the Japanese side. Once you get away from the usual suspects... |

Doesn't the article say DreamWorks? They're not Pixar quality of course, but still. |

Since i live in Hollywood i know what company it is Vertigo Entertainment, the ceo Roy lee who you should know gained fame for turning japanese movies into u.s remakes, when asian companies wanted to just sell their movies in U.S as is, he told them they're too japanese to work, and they gave roy the rights to sell the remake to a U.S Studio(grudge, the ring, unborn, departed) he has made a name for himself americanizing Japanese movies to quote Roy "Americans hate subtitles, and Japanese culture won't sell" he is curr. doing death note the studio he works with most is warner bros. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1321511/fullcredits#cast with old boy, japan sold it to universal, universal hired roy lee universal gave it to dan lin pictures, dan lin sold to dream work roy lee is still actually making it with dreamworks as just the distributor http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/16584 |

Mr. sickVisionz - There will always be people who will hate any adaption of anime or manga despite the company's or individual's reputation in the film industry.
