Quite agree. However, I also understand how cultural different (especially the crash between eastern and western culture) can result in quite a lot of stories to be told. I am an Asian who have spent nearly half my life living in a western country and I have enough story about this kind of things to fill out several books if I ever want to write one. That is only by living as a student. In my country, where are tons of books about relationship between Asians and Westerners too, although none has gone as far as becoming a film. |

Honestly, this sort of thing has been done in the US before--and not very frequently at that. Heck, interracial couples aren't a common find in Hollywood films, period, regardless of either partner's origin (TV's fairing better, but still...). I'm all for more examples of it, especially in a nation as culturally- and racially-secluded as Japan, so more power to them. |

Just wanna say, I'm Hungarian
and yep her actual husband is (according to wiki) Hungarian/Italian but born and raised in America, and moved to Japan at age 15. I'm not sure where the actor playing him is from though (Jonathan Sherr). |

If it's anything like the manga, it's just going to be a bunch of cute scenarios involving a quirky housewife and her multi-lingual lawyer husband. The message will be "He's a kooky guy who happens to be Not Japanese, not kooky because he happens to be Not Japanese. Yay cultural exchange." I happen to live in Japan right now and me and the girlfriend get a kick out of popping open the book and seeing how much the comic parallels our own relationship. The book was a runaway best seller and opened a small series including a couple sequels, an English vocabulary builder (somewhat obviously) and a semi-regular series of short cartoons played on one of the busiest trains in Tokyo. I'm actually surprised it took this long to make a live-action adaption since it would seem so easy (and cheap) to make. |

Apparently, The Vapours continue to assert that the commonly-accepted interpretation of this phrase was unintentional on their part. Still, this film may contain a few intriguingly awkward moments if it happens to touch upon such subject matter. |
