Kind of like the Otakon shockwave times 20.

Meanwhile, people attending Comiket used the popular online service Twitter to inform other attendees that the ATMs at Tokyo Big Sight were completely out of money.

Hahahaha, that's hilarious. I remember Genshiken had an episode where they all went to Comiket, must be lots of fun.

was forced to limit the number of people who boarded trains due to overcrowding.

They must have been really overcrowded considering how packed they allow trains to get on a normal basis anyway.

That's over 186,000 people each day if you were to divide it. It's actually 186,666.667 people. Still, this shows that even though the industry here and there sucks, conventions can get bigger and bigger.

I went the first day and though I had planned on going the second day, I decided against it. Thank God I had a circle pass so I could line up early for the industry booths but man, waking up at 5:30 is no fun.

Japanese people are usually very polite but man, them otaku can be rude, pushing you out of their way, etc. You really can easily get swept away by the sea of people.

The third day had way more visitors, probably more than two previous days combined.

Porn is very serious business.

They could easily charge, the otaku probably would freak out, it only means a bit less to spend. I think the thing people need to realize about Comiket is that it's not really a convention like Otakon or what we have here. It's just straight up porn, circles selling their works, maybe some companies showing off stuff. Not really the same kind of environment.

I'd agree with the porn, but there are also non-porn doujins, and non-porn doujin games.

But yeah, it's mostly porn.

It's not that the convention is growing, is the fact that it's one of its kind that sells mostly dōjinshi pron in Japan twice a year, not anime. It's like gathering as many anime inspired artists over here in one location, and only do that for a limited time slot. This is called centralizing the distribution of goods and services, in order to generate the most profit with the least amount of effort.

Not only that, among the 560,000 count during the 3 days convention, there are those who came on multiple days and they get counted multiple times. So the safest count is actually 200,000 on day 3, because that's the largest single count within a day.

Also, what this does is overcrowding the local infrastructure during those 3 days, and this creates a real disaster when crisis hits. It's only ATM ran out of money and overstuffed trains for now. But when a situation like a fire or an earthquake hits the convention, all hell breaks loose.

I assume the most cautious of con-goers will prepare their bodies in the days leading up to this event. Though I expect there are many facilities in and around the centre, one wouldn't wish to be 'caught out' when in the midst of a Comiket queue, considering these attendance figures.

I think the new Touhou game, Undefined Fantastic Object, was released at this Comiket. If so, I can't wait to order it as soon as I can find an online store that'll carry it. I wouldn't be surprised if the Touhou release contributed to the massive number of attendees... Weren't there so many Touhou doujins at Comiket at one point that they were relegated to their own doujin event, Retaisai?

Actually, from my experience at Comiket 75:
Day 1 is about half yaoi and half other assorted stuff that's not porn.
Day 2 has no porn - all Touhou stuff and Vocaloid stuff
Day 3 is all porn for guys <---- highest attendance

Actually I forgot if Touhou porn would belong in day 2 or day 3, but the point is, at least a good one-third is not porn.

That was pretty much the rundown for Comiket 76 as well. The porn was pretty minimal during the first two days. Most of the male attendees seemed to be hitting the Industry booths on the first day. It took me 4 hours to get through the Nanoha Movie line to buy a movie ticket/cd combo and t-shirt.
