So you may be familiar with the concept of a bucket list, which is a list of things a person wants to do before they die. As this is an Anime Forum and website, what about an Anime bucket list?
What Anime-related things do you want to accomplish before you die or otherwise stop being a fan? It could be anything, like watching a series you have always been meaning to get around to viewing. It could be making an AMV of your favourite Anime couple. Or it could be something like getting a signature of your favourite VA. As long as it is Anime-related, it's okay. As for me: To watch every Ghibli movie ever. I've watched many Ghibli movies and three of them - Grave of the Fireflies, Only Yesterday and Whisper of the Heart - rank among my favourite Anime movies, though for different reasons. But there are many Ghibli works that I have not seen yet like Porco Rosso, The Cat Returns and Ocean Waves. It would be kind of neat to say that I have watched them all. To re-watch the Neon Genesis Evangelion T.V. series and End of Evangelion movie. NGE is an amazing show but I have always hated the last two episodes. And the movie confused the heck out of me and I didn't like it at all. But I have always had this niggling feeling that maybe I didn't 'get' what Anno was trying to say, and that with a re-watch I would better understand and appreciate Anno's message. So I think it is important that I give the series and movie another chance. It's not going to happen soon but I do intend to re-watch them eventually. To attend an American convention. We don't really get big conventions in New Zealand, just Armageddon which is a general pop-culture expo and even that's not very big. So it would be kind of neat to attend one of the big American Anime conventions and just mingle with other fans. Maybe attend a few interesting panels while I'm at it. To re-watch Serial Experiments Lain and Boogiepop Phantom. Both of these are so dense that like NGE I think I need to re-watch them because I sure didn't make sense of them first time round. Since my initial viewing of both I have learnt a lot about both series and I want to go back and see how they fare now with my new knowledge. Also, with the former series I have a theory about the Wired and I want to see if it fits. To watch the Revolutionary Girl Utena series. My only actual exposure to Utena was the movie, which my girlfriend at the time insisted I buy. Needless to say, it was a bizarre experience and I had no idea why people were turning into cars. I definitely would like to watch the T.V. series one day, because I've heard so many good and interesting things about it. So, what's your Anime Bucket List? |

To actually watch Neon Genesis Evangelion
You say yours is to rewatch it, i still need to even start it. In the 2 or so years i've been watching anime i've completed 223 series, started a further 89 and am currently watching/planning to watch 25 series this season, and yet NGE still doesn't feature anywhere among those series. Some day i will start it, some day, just not today. Get my hands on a Ai Yori Aoshi box set Seriously, i don't know if it was just really never released here but i can't find any record of anyone releasing it here, and its pretty much impossible to find any imports of it now its out of print i think, but one day....... Be able to watch anime without subs/english dubs Essentially, learn japanese. I kinda have a fantasy about one day moving to Japan, and for that i'd like to learn the language fluently, but i'm not really sure i'll ever be in a position to do such a thing, so i can at least watch anime and know what they're actually saying. Watch/Finish all the Key associated series i watched Clannad + After Story, but i'm still only halfway through Kanon '06 and have yet to start Air and Angel Beats (i consider it "associated" with Key, although not directly Key). I kinda feel that these series just need finishing as a set, kind of like finishing everything GitS related. Attend some sort of Convention I could attend a con here, and plan to in the future, but i would also like to attend a proper con in Japan, failing that something like AnimeExpo (i think thats what it was called, it just happened whatever it was) |

I have to be in the same boat with you on that, the thing is that I have seen talks about it being so big, trailers, references to it, but I have also seen people rage about the end, and the original has awful animation. I suppose I should ask if it is watchable with just the movies, and that I will not feel bad after watching it. To Watch When they cry I have heard the show is gory, and seen some unfortunate exerts from the series, and I just so far do not like the idea of putting that with cute girls. I will work up the courage eventually. Watch older anime The oldest shows I have watched are like Cowboy Bebop and Excel Saga, I would like to eventually have a watch of the older anime. |

Geneon was the original license holder, and all they ever released were 8 singles spanning both seasons with two art boxes and another collection called the "brick set", which was basically the eight singles shrinkwrapped. The license was dead for a while after Geneon folded, but Funimation rescued it a few years ago and now their box set is available and shipping out weeks early. |

Let's see:
See more works from Leiji Matsumoto I've just recently started looking into titles that the famous manga/ anime creator, particularly the various anime installments of Captain Harlock. Watch all the major Gundam titles Currently in the middle of breezing through any title of the franchise I can get my hands on. With exception to movie recaps/ reboots, I wish to check out all the different chapters of the franchise at some point. Get all of Marmalade Boy on DVD One of my current major goals to acquire for my stockpile which will be challenging enough with the show being long out of print and the ridiculous prices that many sellers have going for either the entire series or the third box set. Get all of Fushigi Yugi on VHS or DVD Major acquisition goal #2. Nothing against Media Blasters, but I don't have much faith in them releasing the entirety of the series on DVD with them in financial shambles right now, especially since they recently canned future release of the rest of Bakuman's first season. Guess my best bet will be to try snagging Pioneer/ Geneon's original releases, even if they cost an arm and a leg. Watching 1000 anime titles in their entirety. As of this post, I'm inching close to fully watching 700 anime titles which is quite a bit for me in my ten years of fandom. Hopefully, I can get this goal fulfilled at some point as long as there are enough titles that grab my interest and don't irritate me to ditch them in the middle of their run. |

Hmm, from the top of my head, I think...
To cosplay as an anime character (haven't decided which character yet) I always wanted to cosplay as a an anime character at an anime convention or the San Diego Comic con. Having watched some of the live footage from CR's live stream and cosplay videos, I'm thinking this a bit more serious now. Improve my writing in reviews I've been writing some reviews of some anime series lately and hope to improve the comprehension and structure of some of my reviews. To re-watch Elfen Lied three more times and complete the manga Despite some of the controversies, Elfen Lied remains one of my favorite anime and I've already watched it over 7 times. (mostly in dubbed) I plan to re-watch it again sometimes this year or maybe over the next few months. I've yet to start to read the manga but will definitely get to it someday. To watch/finish Legend of the Galactic Heroes After reading numerous reviews and comments, I plan to finish this someday. To purchase some of the Nana manga volumes One of my favorite anime that I've watched. I plan to purchase this manga someday and collect the volumes of this series. It's a bit a shame though that the current manga series is on hiatus. Giving Aria the Animation a second chance At the time, I didn't enjoy watching Aria the Animation. I guess it's not really my taste but after reading some reviews, comments, and thoughts, I'm thinking of giving this series a second chance. Purchase a DVD set of Shigofumi: Letters from the Departed and Phantom Requiem For some reason, I really enjoyed both of these underrated series so looking forward to spending some cash on them. Collect light volumes/manga of the Toaru Majutsu no Index franchise (maybe Railgun) as well Although not a priority, I'm keen on start collecting the light volumes of this series as I am a fan of the anime as well as its spinoff, Railgun. Watch and most likely purchase Summer Wars I really need to stop putting this off. It's on the to-do list. |

To attend an anime convention (and possibly cosplay as a character)
I haven't been to any convention ever. When people tell me I'm a big anime fan I tell them I don't consider myself one since I haven't even been to any convention in my life. I won't consider myself a true fan until I've went to one, though that's just me. To re-watch my childhood anime in English sub When I was young anime was dubbed in my native language. Even the names were changed. I want to find a copy of these anime in Japanese and watch them again. Top of my list would be Magic Knight Rayearth, Dragonball and Fushigi Yuugi. To watch even just one English sub episode without using the English sub I know a lot of people frown upon the idea of learning the Japanese language because of anime, but yes, that's my first reason for studying the language right now. Still, that's not the only reason, but I'd love it if I can watch an episode or even just understand an opening theme without needing a subtitle. To own all volumes of the Detective Conan/Case Closed manga This deviates a bit from anime. I would love my own extensive manga collection, which I don't have right now. One of the titles I'd love to own is Detective Conan. Other titles I'd love to have would be Nana, Skip Beat!, The Wallflower and Red River (yep, all shojo). That's all I can think of right now. |

I hope to live long enough to watch all of Urusei Yatsura. I bought all of it (except Beautiful Dreamer, which I already had and was licensed by CPM not AnimEigo) in April 2010 after AnimEigo announced it was letting the license expire. The only part of the franchise I have watched is Beautiful Dreamer (also saw the first 2 TV episodes at my anime club) so with 5 other movies, 200 TV episodes and 11 OVAs to go, this will take a while.
I don't know if this counts as I don't currently have a plan to make this happen, but if I won the lottery one thing I would definitely want to do is attend Anime Expo at least once. I'd like to say "slaying my backlog" is on my bucket list but that would require me to stop buying new anime for a couple of years and that isn't likely to happen. |

Wow, I can't believe I forgot about my own backlog. It currently stands at 1,247 episodes and a good number of movies, which is pretty daunting. And that doesn't include all the stuff I don't own yet but still want to watch. Yeah, if I could die with a zero backlog I could rest in peace. |

Watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
It's so long/dense that even thinking of starting is an intimidating prospect, but I'm still very interested in the show. I actually started watching it at one point on HK-DVD (before fansubs were available)... The translation actually wasn't that bad. I *really* want to go back and finish it. |

In no particular order:
Clear my backlog Like most of you, I have a fairly hefty backlog, both physical and streamed. I'd like to try and clear it someday. Subset of this entry: Watch all of Sailor Moon. Be able to read manga/watch anime in Japanese I want to do this as something to work towards to actually improve my Japanese. I studied it for a year, and have been studying in my own time since. Watch all the Ghibli movies As with dtm, it'd be kind of cool to say I'd seen them all. I enjoyed all the ones which I've seen so far, but I still have a fair few to go. Meet and get an autograph from a mangaka I have quite a few mangaka I'd love to meet and get to sign something for me. Top of the list would have to be CLAMP though. To get around to watching Neon Genesis Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop No, I've never seen either of these shows, but at the moment I don't really feel that I'm missing out. One day, I'll get around to them. Own every CLAMP manga ever I've been a big CLAMP fan for a long time, and I'd like to own everything they've produced. I'm almost there, but still need a few OOP Tokyopop ones. Go to an American convention Basically for the same reasons as dtm. Cons here are tiny and don't have much going on. I have completed a couple of things from my list and they are: Follow a manga series as it's being serialised from beginning to end I did this with Bakuman. I started reading it when it first came out in the Japanese magazine, and read it week by week until its end recently Go to a convention and cosplay I went to my first British convention last month and it was great fun if a little disorganised. |

I don't know any Japanese except for sayonara and baka and onii-chan and stuff like that. But I would love to watch an episode of Anime without any subtitles and see how much I understand. The amount would probably surprise me (in a good way). A music teacher once told me that with opera, an uninitiated person can understand 80% of what is going on even if they don't understand a word of Latin. I've never been to an opera (I know, I know, I'm a philistine), but that has always stuck with me. In fact, I might do that (watch without subtitles) with an episode of one of the new shows this season. Just for fun, and to see what happens. As long as it isn't something too wordy I reckon I should be okay.
May I ask as to what character you cosplayed as? |

I'll admit, I've lived a fairly satisfying anime life. I've been to 11 anime conventions, Anime Expo 4 times, Anime Boston 6 times and Otakon once. The smallest of those was Anime Boston, and that still pulls in around 20,000 people these days. I've gotten autographs from several well known Japanese seiyuu, directors, and artists. My collections of anime, manga, and figures are pretty impressive if I do say so myself. Heck, I've even been able to walk the streets of Akihabara.
Of course, all that doesn't stop me from wanting more. There are a few things that I would like to accomplish before I die, and in the case of some, before the people involved die. Get Rie Kugimiya's autograph Back in 2010 I was able to get the autographs of Yui Horie and Eri Kitamura since NISA had brought them over to promote their then new release of Toradora. But the Tsundere Queen was not with them and it just made me wish even more that she had been there. Her characters aren't for everyone, but she's yet to do a role I didn't enjoy, as far as I've seen. Get Norio Wakamoto's autograph Regardless of where the convention is, as long as it's in the US I would fly there in a heartbeat if they announced Norio Wakamoto as a guest. As far as I'm aware he's never been to a US convention, and that both baffles and saddens me. Usually I wouldn't waste hours waiting in line for an autograph, but this one, and the previous one, I would. That would make the convention for me. Catch up to my anime backlog This seems to be a pretty common theme, especially among collectors. I don't know how many episodes I have to catch up on, but according to DVDAF I do know that I'm 248 titles, 607 discs behind with my backlog. I fear that the only way I'll be able to catch up is like Charlie said, just stop buying for a couple years. But, like Charlie, I don't see that happening. Get back into cosplaying shape This one is kind of subjective on what I mean by it. I've cosplayed in the past, even though I was already a larger version of said character. But then I gained more weight and I really wouldn't feel comfortable cosplaying as I am right now. Cosplaying was a good bit of fun, even cosplaying in the killer heat and humidity of Baltimore in early August, and I'd really like to do it again some day. |

I would guess nothing since it's still on their list of things to do. Read my Manga Backlog-Since I've got 96 volumes of unread (and in lots of cases complete series) manga lying around that needs to be read. I've been chipping away at it recently though, there used to be over 100. I'm way more of an anime person though and never really think of that big ass pile of manga. Watch all the series in my "Want to See" list-Pretty self-explanatory, but yeah I'm interested in a lot of things that I haven't had the time to watch yet. Build a "Library" room in my house- Have a large room strictly for my media with wall to wall shelves to better take care of my stuff and get it out of bedroom since it's just grown too damn big for the allotted space and shelves I have there. |

Track down and watch the rest of Kodocha and the second Story of Saiunkoku series.
I've read enough spoilers about the former to know what basically happens, but the fact that I've never actually seen the episodes irks me. I know nothing about the latter other than that it exists and wasn't ever licensed in the U.S. Track down and watch at least some of Future Boy Conan. This 1970 series was Miyazaki's directorial debut, and I've heard that it was innovative for its time. I'm very curious. Track down a good digital copy of the original fansubs for Bastard!! And by that I mean the unedited-for-American-copyright-standards version that was circulating in the convention scene in the late '90s, the one that still had all of the heavy metal band name references. Watch the last 30 or so episodes of DB that I haven't seen. They're the ones at the end of the series which cover Piccolo Jr.'s debut and Goku hooking up with Chi Chi. Somehow I've never seen those, and the gap irritates me. Cosplay at an anime convention once. I'm well above the normal cosplaying age at 'cons, but I have occasionally seen people even older than me doing it. This would probably only ever happen if I was going as an age-appropriate teacher or mentor figure accompanying/chapheroning a younger crowd, and I don't normally do the costume thing for anything, but I might bite if I had the right opportunity. There are others, I'm sure, but these are the ones that most immediately spring to mind. And unlike some around here, I don't have a big backlog to burn through; if I discount my unopened Nadia metal tin, the episodes that I might actually eventually watch that I currently have but have never watched probably only number 3-4 dozen. |
