Man, I probably couldn't sit for 5 hours watching anime. I think the longest I've gone without a break was 3 (Kanon x6)

Watching movies is nice, but I think that there should be some interspersing with serieses and OVA's. The shortness would probably bring some much-needed relief after 22 minutes.

Not too terribly exciting a story, though. Now, if the club was like the MIT Blackjack Team, that would be awesome.

I can't believe people still call Anime: Japanamation, not Japanese Animation.

Interesting article though.

While the article, in its rather bland entirety, is more objective than many others I've read on anime, it still stands that such a piece would never be written about the MIT Chess Club. Why must the club members speak for themselves on the two major misconseptions about anime? From my experience in the newspaper industry (I'm an assistant editor), I see little point in this article - it's not important, it's nothing new and it demonstrates almost no effort on the part of a reporter to create a story filled with anything other than quotes and generic statements.

I really disliked the comment about people thinking anime is all porn. What people are these? And is mentioning such a thing this way really conducive to promoting anime?! I'd much rather have read "Anime is not a genre, it encompasses, and often exceeds, the same range of subject matter found in the rest of the film industry. From drama, action and mystery to adventure, romance and adult entertainment. And it appeals to all age levels, children, teens and adults are individually targeted audiences."

There, no porn word. Very simple. Jeez. No doubt that word ended up in the article to spice it up.

On the other hand, hurrah for an article in the Globe about anime!

Usually dumb-ass jocks, based on my experience.
