And now, the nationalist (2ch) newspapers will have a field day: Brazilian gaijin foreign devil steals 57 manga books, runs naked while beating up the shop owner and selling the books.

I am a Brazilian living in Japan, and I have to say it: what an idiot. Even though it was worth 11,190 yen (according to the source), stores of course don't pay much when you try to sell it. They would pay him only 2 or 3 thousand yen.
There are people (I don't know the nationality) in Japan who force open automatic vending machines (the ones that sell beverages, for example) only to get some thousand yen too...

Stupid people. They could at least try to steal something more valuable... Razz

Why take such a risk for such little reward? Better off getting a job for money.

Now you have a record dummy.

Just a thought, but do you think Japan would allow him to remain in the country after this? Perhaps not.

But if he is stealing, I doubt he has the money to return to Brazil. Therefore, if they want him out of of the country, Japan would have to foot the bill. If that was his goal all along, suddenly this guy looks a lot smarter.

That's as many as 5.7 tens.
And that's terrible."

Opportunities so rare as this should be seized summarily.

I agree with those who say that this Gomez character was an idiot. If this twit were living in the United States and did the same thing here,he'd be spending a few months, maybe a few years in jail for what he did. He'd probably be made fun of on a show that featured stupid criminals. Also, people like Jay Leno,David Letterman,Jimmy Fallon,Craig Ferguson, and others like them would feature him in a stupid criminals segment just for laughs.
To steal 11,190 yen worth of manga books, which is equivalent to $94 US dollars,to me invites ridicule. If I were a Brazilian living in the United States (I'm not,I'm a native born American) I would agree with vallum,my fellow countryman in Japan. Mr. Gomez is an imbecile of the highest order.

Does this sort of crap give you a bad name while living in Japan?

I heard about the Brazilian populations who emigrated for work...but hear (from NHK reports I have seen) the acceptance is not very high. - and I am sure this would not help.

Where did he put all this manga he took while he was still in the store. A person can only carry a great deal until they are slowed down some. Makes me wonder what he was going to do once he was outside with that amount of weight though.

And when the economy tanked, they were told to leave Japan, even though they were initially invited to immigrate and they're ethnic Japanese.

I'm not sure if it's available this year, but the Japanese government lends money if a Brazilian wants to go back to his country and doesn't have the means to do so. The "downside" is that if he goes back to Brazil, he can't come back to Japan unless some years have passed.

And in the case someone's expelled from the Japan, I think the person (or his family) has actually to pay for the costs later on.

Yes, this gives Brazilian people a bad reputation, for sure. Or, should I say, it gets worse than it already is. Brazilians in Japan are already known as people who don't follow the rules, don't try to socialise with Japanese people and don't try to learn Japanese...
