Incorrect: Yuichi Shinbo (真保 裕一 )
Correct: Yūichi Shinpo (真保 裕一 ) I know one of the readings for the character "真" in this case is usually "Shin" and not "Shim", but on the FMA Milos making-of featurette they kept saying "Shimpo-san" and not "Shinpo-san". Additionally, FUNimation had to translate a bunch of staff names on the feature. I'm positive that they had to get at least a list from Aniplex confirming the staff readings for the feature and "Shimpo" is consistently used throughout. Although, I will admit they use two other readings elsewhere: "Shimbo" on one of the trailers and "Shinpo" on the slipcover. I think it's best to go by the feature in any case for my previously stated reasoning. Also, the 11 articles on Shinbo's profile to need to edited. EDIT: Changed romanization to Shinpo. See post directly below. Last edited by braves on Wed May 02, 2012 7:29 pm; edited 1 time in total |

A feature of the Japanese language is that syllabic 'n's are pronounced like 'm' when preceding a p. How it is written depends purely on the romanisation scheme used; it isn't an issue of the reading since there is no such thing as a syllabic 'm'.
If we were sticking to the letter of the law (to follow WP's romanization rules) we would use n rather than m. The bo/po is more of an issue here in fact. |
