Damn, One Piece just keeps on getting bigger and bigger. Could it be the biggest anime/manga franchise in history by now?

Yes. One year ago there was a documentary about the sucess of One Piece and why it is as successfull as it is. From there comes the info about who reads OP:
This is it:

However there is also a recent one done because of the art exhebition:

In both cases, the statistics are actually for One Piece manga buyers, not One Piece manga readers.

That's how the articles were worded, I however don't know how one would be able to differentiate between the two when considering buyers and readers are more often than not, one in the same.
It just looks like trifling in technicalities to me.

Exactly. One Piece volumes are 420 yen and are sold in very accessible areas. There would be no reason for kids to have their parents buy one for them, at least as far as I understand. There shouldn't be much of any discrepancy between manga readers and buyers.

EDIT: What I find really interesting about One Piece is that it sells more copies than the current circulation of Shounen Jump.

At first glance I thought it said it sold 65 million in 2 months. I almost fainted.

No surprise here. Cool
Now, that the manga is currently in the New World, I expect the sales to keep on increasing. $$$$

I just calculated.

If Oda gets 40% of the profits for each volume, he made roughly 6 million dollars of this one volume.

Holy.
F*cking.
Sh*t.

40 is a really high royalty. It's so high that it would completely screw printers and retailers.
Even if it is Oda I can't imagine his royalty being more than 15%.

Really? That's low...artists really do get shafted...

But with a 15% deal he still got 2.29 million bucks for this volume.
