Was that part of the series with the police department? I loved that.

I guess they were having lots of problems with people mispronouncing the name. Apparently a lot of people were saying "shell" instead of "see-el."

"she-ru janakute, shi-e-ru!"

i was browsing a j-pop forum, and they were talking about the pronounciation of one of the vocalists albums. it's spelled roentgen and pronounced ren-to-gen.

i think they just do it to confuse us.

That one isn't L'Arc's fault. That's the name of the person who discovered x-rays and has thus become to mean "x-ray" in Japanese.

Though on a tangential note, the British confuse the crap out of me too with some of their names. St. John = "sinjin?" ...o...kay...

But back to the topic. There's some obsessed fangirls out there who will absolutely *tear* your apart if you pronounce L'arc wrong. "NO! It's LARUKU! What's WRONG with you!" And then go on to pronounce the members' names wrong. It's absolutely ridiculous.

yeah. i just pronounce it however. fan girls can be really annoying. once at otakon, there were a bunch of Gundam Wing fangirls obsessing over pins. i was waiting there forever.

on a side note, lose control by l'arc is a pretty cool song. i don't know what cd it's on but we all know you download them online... Wink

I am an obsessed Hyde fan... I even shelled out $20 for a replica of his barbed-wire necklace. The name of the band originates from a movie Tetsu saw, called L'Arc-en-Ciel. He liked the name, and it stuck. Shame on you all for not knowing that! (Or maybe it's just Brit-chan the obsessive fangirl... *sweatdrop*)

Around 2000, Hyde pronounced it like "L'Ark - ahn - shiel"

Maybe the pronunciation changes like how the capitalization of Hyde's name changes? (Hyde, hyde, HYDE) o_o;

~shinshoku~ lose control - RAY album. ^^;; That song makes me laugh. "I died then my instinct was born! I died then my instinct was born!"

The French pronounciation is pretty much what you quoted. "Lark ahn si(long e)-el"

well, to be fair the performed at Otakon this year. I'm sure that if they're happy with the turn out and crowd respose that they'll come back again. Keep your fingers crossed.

Also, at the concert, they pronounced it as such "laruku en shi-e-ru"

basically, don't get your panties in a bunch over it. no one will kill you if you say "see-el" instead of "shi-el". if worse comes to worse, just call them "hyde, tetsu, yuki and ken!'

Hehe, true... but then again, hyde's name isn't pronounced "hide" in japanese... it's something more along the lines of "hide-o" o.o; I forget where I read this though...

That's not how it's really pronounced, that's just the Japanese approximation of the name.

It's pronounced like hyde as in "Jackel and Hyde."

Lol, I know that. But since "ciel" is being pronounced "shi-e-ru", why not go all the way and call him with the Japanese approximation as well? Anime hyper

Ah, whatever. If you're in america, stick with the american pronunciation. If you're japanese, go with the japanese. Or whatever Anime smile ::gives up::

And yes, it is Jeckyll, not Jackel ^^
