I just saw it; I can say that it looks promising. Though it's really beside the point, I'll have to disagree with the "crappy" comment on Spirited Away. I wonder if and when Howl's Moving Castle is coming to DVD?

sweet preview, i cannot wait for the movie to be out Anime smile, if its gonna be both subbed AND dubbed... then i'll need TWO tickets *hopes doesnt cost too much*

*sigh* select cities... well >.> i thought that meant only fro the early one then to the big screens later? i dunno though... i guess i'll have to get a ride to nyc then... *2 hours with traffic...*

anyone read the book? that was my favorite of her books (i liked the continuation alil, but not as much..) i've read it like 8 times... unfortunatly to me the only similarites i see so far is a "moving castle" the names, and an old lady Anime hyper but so what it'll be good.. (i read somewhere diane waynne jones said that it "feels like i've sold my characters into slavery" Anime hyper i wonder what horrible things he'll do to them... Anime smile)

I've heard that Miyazaki was rather liberal with the movie and changed things quite a bit. However, I've also heard that the author saw and enjoyed his version and wasn't condonscending about it at all. Lots of movies turn out really different from the book - read: Chocolat - but are still good.

Yeah, I watched the film early this year (locally) and later read the book: there were some fairly big changes. IMO some were needed, some were not...

If you didn't like Spirited Away thoguh, I think you'd prolly hate this film: I personally thought Howl's was way below Spirited Away, but of course, everyone has different opinions. It's just that there were some undeniable mistakes such as confusing inconsistencies in the animation near the end, a lot of unexplained things (not in a good sense), some really corny/last-minute stuff (spoiler[like the walking stick SUDDENLY turning into the Prince at the last minute and spouting something really corny] - the audience was laughing at that though I highly doubt it was intended to be funny), ... Even some people I know who haven't watched any anime besides Ghibli films thought it was one of his worst films ever.

My own opinion is fairly similar: even the wonderful animation and music couldn't really save the film, but I probably sound like some bitter blasphemous little twerp right now, so I'll leave it at that... Oh, but the first half was definitely nice stuff...

Well, I'll just see if it's popular anyway...

So will HMC be getting a wider, smaller, or same-sized relase as Spirited Away? (After it recieved the Oscar)

I guess I shouldn't be too worried about it showing at my theatre if it showed SA before it won, and after. Smile

Oh, and does anyone know what piece from the soundtrack was being played at the beginning of the trailer?

Early, yet to be confirmed, reports have it on as many as 700 screens, which, if true, would make it the first proper test of a non kiddy merchandising franchise Japanese cartoon in "limited wide" release.

I'm not counting the post-Oscar re-release of Spirited Away as people claim that the box office for that was anemic because the DVD was only a couple of weeks away.
