For the love of all things sacred DO NOT support 4kids version of One Piece. Hell, I don't even support the manga anymore since they changed ZoRo's name to ZoLo. It is no longer the One Piece that all the original fans fell in love with. It has become defield, and when i heard that the ratings are slightly getting better myy heart mereley sinks at the thought that this travesty is gonna continue. I understand it was originally a show meant for kids, but whne it was licensed by the wrong people. Why do you think Others are still making Fansubs and completely ingoring the Licensing of it. I hate the voices of the characters. I kinda understand the whole lollipop thing but I still hate it, but you must ask yourself if they did that for Sanji what will happen when Captain Smoker is debuted, or will they completely edit him out of the show. Anyways, 4KIDS completely allienated the Original Western fanbase of the show and I can only hope little kids won't get pulled into the hype.

Dude, it could have had the most faithful adaptation on television and shown completely uncut and it would STILL be fansubbed. To a lot of groups with less "ethical" intentions, a license doesnt change jack squat.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Smoker a bad guy, or atleast not nessecerally a heroic or good(aligned) character? If he is of a shifty nature, then the smoking would be fine since he's not in a position to make it "OH LOOK! THIS IS COOL! SMOKING IS COOL!", which 4Kids/whoever couldn't get in trouble for. Besides, the ammount that he smoke is utterly ridiculous, so it's hard impressionable.
Well, to be fair, 4Kids never buys a property for the sake of the Anime market. |

Hmm well Steven lets see, True had there been a truthful adaptation of One Piece there still might be making fansubs of it(take Naruto for example), So I'll rephrase it. The fans would support the superior adaptation compared to its current Bastardization and they would purchase the DVD releases. Next, Smoker IS a good guy. It just so happens that in the beggining you see aolt of corrupt marines, Smoker was brought out to show you that not all marinesare corrupt and that there are some that fight for justice,therefore there would be Somker fans. Monkey and his crew are PIRATES, that is already going against the law, but they show that there can be good pirates aswell. There really is no specific good or bad side in this story it all depends on person to person personalities. Finally, yes 4KIDS does things to make money they don't care about the fans all they see is green. But hey that is how life works, teh rule is sell out as much as possible whenever possible that is the most effective way to make money. That is the purpose of 4KIDS its to make money. Oh well...

Well even if Toonami is just going to show the 4Kids dub at least I can catch up on the beginning episodes that I missed. My stupid VCR kept forgetting to go over the audio until I got a new one. Even if the dub is pretty bad I'm still going to continue watching it since I can’t see One Piece any other way. My computer isn’t fast enough for fansubs and even if I wanted to it’s against my morals to download since it’s licensed.

Not nessecerally. People are always going to be cheapskates or unwilling to buy an (eventually) 400 episode series. Ontop of that, 4Kids aren't there for the same market so it'd still be pretty redundant. The ammount of support from an "Otaku" market would've probably been infinantly smaller than the market they've always been gunning for.

Well, to be fair, if they did "sell out" that'd imply they had a prior fanbase to what they have now, which they didn't. They've always been in the Kids entertainment business, and never have "sold out" on the Anime fan market. |

Well seeing as it's not for nothing the company's name is "4Kids" it wouldn't matter if they had for example licensed "Legion of the Overfiend" they would edit it into a cartoon for kids. They are the vatican of the church of "cartoons are for kids", and as long as they can make a good profit out it they will be around for awhile doing it. Has anyone ever seen 4Kids at an anime convention?
