If this is true, it'll be the greatest thing ever.

And for the record, I prefer Robotech over Macross. Yes. I'll leave it at that, though, since I have no doubt the Robotech vs. Macross: Match of the Millenium thing has been done to death here like it has everywhere else.

To be fair, if they just use the characters from Robotech and happen to use the ones from the Macross chunk, no one would be able to tell the difference between the two anyway. Since, I imagine, they'd be adding their own random voices.

Harmony Gold...let's see...that would be the company that ripped Big West off 20 some odd years ago? Makes me want to write the UN and complain, since HG set US-Japan business relations back a decade or so with crappy business practices.

Robotech still airs in repeats on a few local stations and people are still buying DVD's of ADV's Robotech release-it's one of thier biggest sellers ever. Every time that happens, HG gets money. If YOU could run a company whose buissness model consisted of sitting on your butt and collecting royalty checks for something you did twenty years ago, woulden't you? Very Happy

Harmony Gold wasn't the one that ripped them off. They just bought it from the company that did.

Man some of you purists need to chill. Rolling Eyes Sure in your eyes, Robotech can't measure up to it's orginal source material (Macross), but i give Macek props for importing this series to the states along with the implemention of a new storyline that expands througout the 3 unrelated HG/Tatsunoko series.

Robotech is partly responsible for fueling America's interest in Anime which was very scarce at the time (circa 1985) Robotech
despite having the violence and adult material toned down via censors was still the best animated syndicated series to air in the US of that era. (even superior to my favorite 30 minute toy commercials; Transformers and GI Joe.)And kids like me immediatley took notice. Macek originally intended to release Macross,Southern Cross and Mospeda bearing the orginal story and concept, but in order for them to be syndicated he needed atleast more than 35 episodes. besides that the American Macross and Mospeda pilot episodes sucked.

Some of you guys may call him a hack but i appreciate his contributions to this medium.

As for Harmony Gold doing something for the benefit of mankind (via UN) I have no complaints whatsoever.

While i like the idea they used anime.Though i am not a fan of harmony golds strangle hold on robotech/macross copyrights.The day they lose those rights will be a day the fans of macross will rejoice.


Yes, because that will be the day Macross 7 and Macross Zero will see the U.S.

Does anyone know when Harmony Gold will lose the rights to the Macross/Robotech franchise? I mean, it's been nearly 20 years, and they can't hold onto them forever, can they? Just curious if anyone knows an approximate date.
