I sincerely hope that people will remember Takahashi as a storyteller first and a commercialist second. I still think it's BS that nearly everyone's first exposure to Takahashi was through the awful 4Kids dub of Yu-Gi-Oh!, with the old adage of first impressions and all. Confused

I recently re-read the entire series from the beginning and yeah I think people slept on Takahashi as a writer. The manga might be slightly underrated because of most people exposure to the 4kids dub. Hope people go back because I think its the definitive way to experience that story.

I enjoyed the manga and what subs I could find, and I still have five painstakingly crafted decks. Sixty's just too soon to go.

Rest well, Takahashi-san. I hope his friends and family will be okay.

Waking up to this really sucks. While I may not have been the biggest YuGiOh fan, his contributions to the anime/manga/gaming space was huge. RIP, the world is better for your work and you’ve touched many people in so many ways.

Someone wanted Konami to address this? https://twitter.com/G0ffThew/status/1545087238219788289?s=20&t=D1hAhN9Tbb4IDy-82TL7Bw Thanks, @yugiohtas.

I remember Toei's season had one of Megumi Ogata's most insane roles next to Nagito Komaeda from Danganronpa 2. Like with Nagito, Ogata had play an innocent Yugi who could switch into his darker persona who even seemed sometimes a bit of a sadist when defeating an enemy. I don't remember well the second actor but he became a meme thanks to that "Doro! Monsta Cado!" scene

I sure hope so. I fell off from it when GX ended almost 15 years ago now. All these new series that have nothing to do with the original series, even the card game barely looks like what it originally did

To be pretty fair Takahashi would probably tell you (and probably has if asked) that the franchise resembles nothing like what he originally envisioned when he first started the series. Plus with the franchise being as big as it is I don’t see it ending in any form.

People back in the day discovered GoLions, Gatchaman, Macross, and SB Yamato through Voltron, Battle Of The Planets, Robotech, & Star Blazers.

It’s certainly dumb that many of us were exposed to the series through a needlessly edited, Americanized, and janky voiced dub but it is what it is.

Despite I'm not being the biggest Yu-Gi-Oh fan, I loved the original anime growing up, it is really nostalgic and dear to me.

To bad he had to go in such a way (we still don't know the details) and so soon, but may his soul rest in peace.

If you haven't seen the anime, it's still streaming @ https://www.crunchyroll.com/yu-gi-oh . BTW, did a Google, and the story made the NYT, Newsweek, and even Rolling Stone! Also, statement from @Yugiohtas: https://twitter.com/yugiohtas/status/1545075468386193413?s=20&t=khUiQzvWSIn7lnjyekkNBw

The abridged series did irreversible damage to the franchise's image in America that can never be undone, arguably more than 4Kids ever did. Very odd to see them try to be sincere after spending over a decade trashing and mocking the franchise at every possible avenue and spreading so much misinformation about its production and legacy.

Takahashi was a legend. His death is is a tragedy and the method is horrific to read about. I hope he rests in piece.

LittleKuriboh is one of the biggest fans of Yugioh and has nothing but love for the series. You don't put that many hours into doing a parody if you hate it so much. Now's really not the time to be attacking other fans for a petty reason like this. And Yugioh is one of the most popular anime and manga around. He hardly did "irreversible damage." Get over yourself.

Just like Berserk and many series before it when the manga-ka unfortunantely passed away, this is an important time for newcomers who didn't experience the source material story to now experience it. There are folks who intentionally refuse to read Takahashi's original manga because they've been (its the truth) brainwashed on a scary level by the anime and/or card game (and I want to add Yugioh abridged as well because it has had a negative effect if you've seen what I've seen) that they first experienced yet call themselves Yugioh fans. I'm not going deep into the definition of fan because Takahashi has stated before he isn't upset that people came to like the card game or anime more without knowing the source material. But if you call yourself a fan... out of respect for the creator because you wouldn't be watching the anime or playing the card game/video games if it wasn't for him, you should give it a try by reading the 1st chapter (Duelist Kingdom starts on chapter 60 and the story has huge differences that the anime changed/left out all the way to the end).

Can we please stop using Takahashi's death to tell other Yugioh fans how to be "real fans" people? This is kind of uncomfortable.

^ Considering you said that after my post instead of before when you had the chance to say it, you must think I was doing that. Incorrect. I specifically addressed the fanbase situation, but also stated that I'm not going deep into that (because that is not my intention and what I stated is surface level) along with a statement by Takahashi to show respect and why I won't be doing that. Out of respect for him impacting certain individuals lives, I recommended that they check out his original story. Nothing more.
