Justin and I had the pleasure of interviewing Carl in person only a few months ago and he was a gentleman and a very kind, funny man. His contributions to the anime industry cannot be understated. This news is really heartbreaking.
Also: pre-emptively stating that this thread is a no tasteless or classless comments zone. I will be policing it with an iron fist. You want to slander the recently passed, find some other website to do it on. I will be bouncing offenders.

I don't know much about him besides what I heard from the podcast you guys had with him. He seemed like a really nice guy though, sad news.

He wasn't my favorite figure in anime, that's for sure, but he did help contribute to its popularity in America, so he did accomplish something.

I can't believe this news. Robotech was what got my dad (who eventually got me) into anime. Many condolences out to his family and friends.

Terrible news, RIP to Mr Macek & prayers for those close to him. Thanks for Robotech, it was great to be young at that time...
I realize he was a controversial figure in the eyes of many in the anime fanbase but I hope that those who thought ill of him please use a little restraint & class at this time...

While I can't say Mr. Macek was my most favorite of anime personalities, his immense contributions to the formation of anime fandom as we know it some 22 years ago, has persisted even to the present day. My condolences go out to his family and friends, his input will be sorely missed.

From we way he explained on the sites podcast you did what you need to the show got past the network and made sense to an American audience. Everyone forgets our we know about more about other countries than today.

Oh wow. He was, what, in his late fifties? That's terrible.
He may not have been the most liked figure in the industry, but he definitely helped popularize anime in the west and created plenty of new fans in the process. No one can deny his influence.

Yeah, I pretty much would say the same thing. Didn't know who this guy was prior but clearly he had a major impact.
It's kinda interesting how people tend to not know the names of people who had a larger influence until times like these. We don't know just how important these people are until they're either injured or die.
