Anybody here play any anime-styled MMORPG games? The MMORPG I am currently playing is Fiesta Online. Has anyone heard of it? It's got a real nice anime-style design to it. Look at the screenshot:

Here

What do you think of it? Smile

[EDIT: The pic was a little big, so I turned it into a link. -TK]

I wish I could play such an MMO, but they all require Windows, and I don't use anything Microsoft.
The only MMO that comes close is Dofus, but that isn't really anime styled, and I've gotten tired of it anyway.

That is not true. What prevents a lot of these MMOs from running under a different environment than Windows--for example Linux with WINE--are the third-party anti-hacking measures. There certainly exist examples that do not have such problems:

Ragnarok Online: Isometric sprite based MMO with rotatable 3-D background.

Emil Chronicles Online: Like RO, but with 3-D model characters. Server is in the Philippines for the English version.

Ether Saga Online: 3-D game with super deformed models. Still in open beta stage for the English version.

Hello Kitty Online: 3-D social game.

Cute graphics that doesn't require a furnace with a GPU costing over $100 to run well is always nice--it also costs a lot less to produce content for the developers.

Doesn't every game "suck the life out of you" though? It takes hours to complete missions or whatever you are wanting to do in a game.

As for the other games, if you like Ragnorak, I would recommend trying out Secret of the Solstice. That game has events going on every week. I tried out Ether Saga and after a week, I wet straight back to Fiesta. Fiesta is so much easier to learn than Ether Saga is.

Fiesta has a new map coming out in the coming weeks. If you want to see what it is, check out the recent patch notes posted up here.

I would try some of these out, but it basically comes down this this:

choose two:

free
mmorpg
good

And, after extensive playing, I've found myself not enjoying pretty much any MMO over in Asia mostly because it's a grindfest -- hence JRPG.

Plus, there's not enough roleplaying for me. I'll stick to my pen and paper and friends, haha.

I recently got into AION because of its anime-ish-ness.

Pretty awesome!

I'm still rather fond of FlyForFun because of its anime character styling and heavily steampunk-influenced imagery.

The gameplay is pretty simple, but the item trade and customization can be a bit frustrating and confusing sometimes (too many similar looking upgrade items that have different functions). But once you get the hang of it and have a bit of cash, you can make some really awesome items.
