Okay, there haven't been any suggestions since Thursday.

When should we start voting on which tournament?

In agreement with Lydia. It's been several days now since a category was last nominated. Think we can start voting for one soon?

Best this. Biggest that. Pfft. I want to see the darker side to anime. I want to know what makes people's eyes bleed and ears burst. Let's see if the "Biggest Badass" (whomever it may be) can stand up to anime's Worst of the Worst.

Most Annoying Character - These characters are everywhere, but one must stand above all others. Once crowned, we'll honor them by patting them on the back just as a bullet train approaches.

The Biggest Failure - These characters talk big, act big, and think big, but when it comes down to it, they're failures and often end up socializing on Facebook in the end.

The Queen Bitch - Tsundere haters unite, for you get the opportunity to vote for the character which ruined a series for you. The winner will get paired with the Most Annoying Character winner (and receive a pat on the back as well).

I Wish I Had Boobs (So I Don't Have To Talk To Girls) - Men everywhere get ashamed of these male characters who we want to beat within an inch of their lives for being... girls. So, why not honor them by giving the winner implants of their choosing.

No way can the Biggest Badass handle these characters. I know this because you can't either. Wink

Good luck with the votes, everyone.

Well since we can't handle them I guess we shouldn't use them for tournament ideas and stick with what we have then. Maybe one day when we're cooler and can handle them we can revisit them as possibilities. Wink

I like some of PetrifiedJellos suggestions actually, they are good different thoughts. Most annoying character? We'd all love a chance to vent and debate who's more annoying. Best (Worst) Tsundere? Sissy boys? Sounds like a decent contest to me.

I am not saying I still didn't like the other ideas as well, but perhaps you are just opposed to more options thus narrowing your chances to get biggest badass yet again. We haven't started voting yet, why limit the suggestions?

I'm still 100% serious about my Knife fight suggestion but most annoying character sounds interesting too. Except I expect a lot of bad blood spilled over it. A lot of "favorite" characters getting put into the roster and whatnot and defending going on. Biggest Wimp would be interesting too.

As far as Most Annoying Character and The Queen Bitch is concerned. I don’t think it is the best idea, these tournaments are prone to turn into flame. Suppose that someone finds certain characters annoying, for example: Suzaku from Code Geass, Kusuriuri from Mononoke, Toru from Fruits Basket, Izaya from Durarara etc and these characters get into the tournament, those who like these characters may be offended that characters they like are in this kind of tournament in the first place, and they may get further offended by explanations given by those who will vote for these character. In this situation there is a lot of potential for a heated discussion that can become flame.

I would rather have a tournament that doesn’t have a high potential of getting closed.

Besides, I liked previous tournaments because sometimes I got to know about series I didn’t hear of or I learnt something that made me interested in certain series. I watched Princess Tutu because I was intrigued by Drosselmeyer during Most Evil tournament. I watched Crest of the Stars because I learnt during the Best Duo tournament that the plot doesn’t revolve around an exchange of gunfire in space as I had thought. That’s why I would rather have a tournament that promotes aspects or characters that I would like to see in anime.

Well, when there's a competition to pit characters against each other, those who chose "A" over "B" will have those supporting "B" a little "bitter" regardless.

I would hope these competitions would remain civil. I mean, it's not like I'm asking for The Cutest Lolicon Character (currently a very hot topic indeed).

Picking the "best", based on votes, always has "losers". Some will just have to accept how the votes go. I mean, the Oscars always has people wondering why "Movie A" won while "Movie B" didn't.

At least they were nominated, right? Wink

Ha, except this time around people will get upset about being nominated. Most Annoying is a high flame risk but still an interesting suggestion and if it's kept civil or if we have are flame shields up and remember not to feed the trolls, it could work.

I think all of the responsible participants need to keep this in mind at all times no matter what topic we choose. I have to be honest: the rampant level of ass-hattery in previous tournaments (usually from a handful of people who feed on that kind of thing) has been one of the big turn-offs for me and is one of the reasons I have skipped the last couple. It's just cartoons, folks, let's all have fun and be civil to each other whatever topic we ultimately decide on.

The problem is ManOfRust, people can be nice and polite in what they say, but be complete jerks in what they do. Just look at all of those people who refused to vote for Light Yagami in the early rounds of the Most Clever/Intelligent tournament, when he was up against characters who were nowhere near his level. Just because a character is morally reprehensible (at least in some people's opinions) does not have any bearing on his actual intelligence, yet some voters time and time again could not see that. No wonder that tournament was, er, vigorously debated.

I'll back up most annoying character too - that one sounds fun, and I think I would enjoy tearing a character down a bit more than exerting a ton of energy pushing one up. But either that or supporting would be great, and really I don't think I'd mind a badass tournament too much; but my tendency to watch romance-oriented anime leaves me with few candidates that I actually know and can coherently argue for/against.

EDIT: grammer adn stufz

Funniest Character and Most Humorous won't happen because both are too similar to Craziest Character. I do like the suggestion of Best Setting because I think it would be interesting to see what people would come up with and whether or not the best-developed settings (like for Twelve Kingdoms and Crest/Banner of the Stars) can be beat by the most unusual ones (such as Spirited Away). That's probably an idea for a shorter tournament, though - 64, or perhaps even only 32 - because it would be hard to come up with a big list of original/distinctive settings. Maybe something like that could be done as an interim after the next big tournament?

And Most Annoying isn't a good idea because it's nearly as purely subjective as a general Best Character tournament and would, I think, be too prone to heated arguments.

Now, a Most Tsundere tournament, OTOH, might be viable, as I think the field of potential contestants is close to the level necessary to support a full-blown tournament and it's a well-recognized-enough character type.

Anyway, onto business. The following seem like the top options:

Biggest Bad-Ass: For cocky characters who demonstrate that they have good reason for being arrogant, quiet types who are extremely good at letting their actions speak for them, and/or characters show off their abilities with considerable attitude. Would not necessarily be limited just to action figures, although they would likely compose most of the field.

Best Supporting Character: For characters who could not reasonably be considered lead protagonists/antagonists/members of the principle ensemble cast but still make a sizable impact on the story and/or distinguish themselves in other ways (especially colorful, integral to the lead's success, etc.). The drawback here would be narrowing the field to a suitable number of choices.

Best Older Character: For characters who are obviously middle-aged or older. I am leery about this one because I'm not convinced that there is a firm evaluating criteria here.

Biggest Nerd: Question the name, but the concept could be viable. Would be for characters who are hyperspecialists in a certain area (and make sure people know it) and/or generally display characteristics commonly associated with nerds. The problem here would be the three-character-per-title limit, as how do you limit nominations from Genshiken to only three? Wink

Best Comic Relief: This one is sufficiently different enough from Craziest Character so as to be viable. This would be for characters who add a bit of levity into generally-serious stories and do so without going over the top; the gods know there are some really bad characters of this type out there, so determining the truly good ones could be interesting.

So it's time to vote, people. We're going to do a format similar to last time: everyone has two points to assign, which can be split between two options or all assigned to one. You can also cast a Vote Against for one option.

Mark me down as 1 point for Best Supporting Character and 1 point for Best Comic Relief. Both seems like fun concepts that will involve many different genre and eras of anime.

Key, I take it you mean that we have 2 points to assign for votes, and these 2 points can also be assigned as negative votes against an option that we don't like? Or did you mean 2 votes for, and 1 against, for a total of 3 votes?

Assuming the former, I vote for Best Supporting Character, both 2 points. I think this is a tournament whose time has come. I'd love to see "Best Older Character", but I don't think it's likely to happen, so I'm going with this one.

EDIT: Spending my downvote on Biggest Badass.
