I'd normally reserve this for Box Office Mojo, but I might as well ask on here. Who thinks the film will make Pokemon the First Movie-sized numbers? My guess is around $20-$50 million. Thoughts?

Maybe teh movie will even do better here than Spirited Away did in Japan
seriously though, i think it will be a little less sucessful than the pokemon audience, unless the movie manages to be extremely good and bring in new fans.

It will suck, because it's American-made.
But there's tons of idiot litle kids, so who knows.
Hopefully it'll bomb and 4-Kids will learn not to make a movie on their own now.

Could you be more specific?
I'd say maybe $30 million is a safe bet, considering that there are movie packs involved.

I take it you're not American. Even if you are, don't underestimate the power of the American-born movie budget. If they can get a Duel Monsters-style storyline (complete with "benevolent" villians [see "Complex Villian" thread] and whatnot) it may not be too bad.
As for me, like most intelligent people, I'll wait 'till it shows up on Cartoon Network. You know it will.

Um, how can it have a complex villian if 4-Kids edited out all the complexity of the villians in the series?
Anubis wants to take over the world with a card game (somehow, don't ask me) for something that happened in the dub-only.
It'll just be a big movie advertising the cardgame like the dub is.

I am amazed at how many people will post saying how yu-gi-oh sucks, pokemon sucks, and 4kids sucks when someone introduces a thread related to one of the three. They exist, they're wildly successful, and WE WILL BE SEEING MORE OF THEM! Man, you guys are so immature!

No, I'm different. I love the original Yu-Gi-Oh! to its fullest. I like how it's not a typical Good VS Evil show like One Piece or Naruto.
Then you look at the dub and everything that made it great is gone. So why should a movie made by 4-Kids and Hollywood with no imput from the Japanese writers be any different?

not me. i don't think yugioh was anywhere close to the pokemon series in terms of popularity at its peak.
i'm surprised it's even getting a theatrical release...

Why would it be on Cartoon Network? YGO is not one of their properties. Anyway, I don't care if they show it or not as I would skip it anyway.

Time Warner seems to have a habit of showing 4Kids programs. (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, anyone?) Also, Yu-gi-oh, along with Pokémon, are on at least twice Monday-Thursday, with one viewing in primetime.

I don't know if the movie will do better. I recently read an article about it in the latest issue in AI. It said that the movie was mostly Japanese-made and the americans didn't have alot to do with the creative parts. I'm not sure but I think it said that Kazuki Takahashi wrote the story. It also said that it will affect the tv show. Both the Japanese episodes of Season 5 and the dub of season 4. It also gave several reasons why it will be better than the pokemon movies:
1. The Japanese companies and Kazuki are aiming specifically for the american audience meaninig that the english dub will be the original dub for a change.
2.It's more dramatic and has more action the edited show.
3.Lots of surprises including one that will change the entire yu-gi-oh franchise.
I also read something that may finally settle this debate on Yu-gi-oh uncut being a kid show or not. It said that the main reason why Kazuki wanted to get involved with the movie was because of the american success with children. Well, I don't care if it's a kids show or not. It's still good and I can't wait 'till the uncut dvds are released. Anyway try reading the latest issue of Anime insider on more on this. I hope they're right about this movie or else I just wasted 6 or $7 of my allowance money.

I dont think it would look right for a full Yu-Gi-Oh movie to happen. I dont know why they would make one eather.

You really need to think before you post...
The movie not only has been made already, but they've made two, the second one will be hitting US theaters in August.

I just found the rating for the Yu-gi-oh movie at upcomingmovies.com. It's rated PG for Scary combat and monsters.
