I just heard about the new Pretty Cure All Stars movie. I was wondering just how many anime have crossed over. I tried looking online but could not find much. I thought it would be interesting to know. If you could help, that would be great.

True cross-overs in anime are very rare. When they do happen, it's almost always between titles by the same creator or company. Tsubasa: RESERVoir Chronicle, which crosses over between various CLAMP titles, is an example of the first. Time Bokan, which has big guest appearance by Gatchaman, is an example of the second (i.e. Tatsunoko). I'm hard-pressed to think of any other examples.

Cameo appearances by characters from one series/franchise in another are a bit more common but still very unusual. Key/Visual Art's titles (Air, Kanon, Clannad) are well-known for this, for instance.

Only one that comes to mind is the Conan and Lupin the III OVA thing.

Other then that I only know of cameos. (Shaft just seems to love to place things in all there series. The bunny from Pani Poni Dash! has shown up in a few other shows done by Shaft. Zetsubou-sensei and his students have shown up in other shows to. Negi from Negima! even showed up in a joke in Zan SZS )

Get Backers has a couple of cameos from Rave Master. Apparently the two series' mangakas are good friends or worked together or something like that. Rave Master's animal mascot shows up in a painting in the background during a Get Backers episode. (And in the manga version of the story as well.) Later a trio of comic Rave Master villians show up in a Get Backers anime only episode. (Sorry, I'm not a Rave Master fan so I don't know their real names.)

Durarara!! episodes are littered with cameo references in the background. Part of the fun fans are having with the series is playing spot the reference. Most, if not all, of the episodes so far have had cameo references from other series.

Can't think of too many, it is common to have cameo's, SHAFT does this quite often. For example their series Natsu no Arashi (1st and 2nd seasons) has had at times cameo appearances from other anime sitting in the cafe and at one time in a chase in hotsprings had the cast of School Rumble appearing. SHAFT also often might sudenly turn a bunch of extras into simular characters.

CLAMP anime have been know to do it, for instance curently airing Kobato has some twins that greatly resemble Chi from Chobits aswell having "Chi" in their name and the appartment building matches to the one in Chobits. There is also a direct crossover from the Manga Wish and I belive the latest even had some characters from xxxHolic, crossing over.

There is also shows like Hayate no Gotoku that have near crossses, such as a character with the same voice and power as Lelouch, busks of popular characters and even had a scene done in the style of TTGL with matching eye catchers..

The only crossover that I've seen is Cross Epoch- oneshot starring One Piece and Bragon Ball Z characters. Nice, but only for fans of these series

Nagi's been drawn in outfits of past characters her VA voiced. It was in season 1 really early on. (She was in Al's armor and something else when attacking Sakuya )

Season 2 had the mangaka person and it was a joke for SZS I think? Because HnG!'s mangaka worked under SZS mangaka. (There's been a few jokes about it in SZS)

The most common stuff for Shaft is having the Bunny show up in the background, chalkboard gags and what not.

Though I noticed more and more SZS keeps getting slammed with Negima! jokes. Kaere/Kaede dressed in Setsuna's pactio outfit (same VA joke) Like I said before they inserted Negi in to a scene. Posters and other items with characters show up in the background. They even made a joke on what manga sells more, and it showed the outline to one of the past volumes of Negima!. Harumi can be seen reading the Negima! manga in one of the OVAs and saying "This week's chapter has .... "

I take crossover to mean when the actual cast or universe of two or more stories interacts, while people talking SHAFT's constant referencing of other series doesn't really fit that. Those are not characters from other stories taking part in the one being told, simply punch lines used to add a quick chuckle.

Legal Drug, and possibly Suki, also make cameos in Kobato but nothing more than that.

DRRR is supposed to have (if tvtropes is to be believed) a direct crossover with another series by the same author, Vamp! and an indirect crossover with the first Baccano light novel. But again, nothing plot altering from what I've heard.

And, I think I read somewhere (maybe in CLAMP no Kiseki?) that CLAMP got the idea for a crossover from two mangas that would occasionally have telephone conversations between them and you had to read both chapters to get the whole conversation. I wanna say that one of them was Glass Mask but I can't seem to find anything about it.

Tsubasa Resevoir and xxxHolic was like that, because they had the black and white bunny creatures; one was in Tsubasa, and characters there could talk to (and send things to) the xxxHolic characters. This was shown in both mangas, but not the anime.

There was news about Ikki Tousen crossing over with another franchise for an OVA recently. I haven't seen it so I don't recall the name.

In Comic Party (the original series, not "Revolution"), the lead character Kazuki dreams about being in class and having the some of the girls from To Heart - Akari, Shiho, and Multi IIRC - in his class and around school. Of course, I think this was explained as having happened due to Taishi playing recordings of To Heart audio dramas to Kazuki while he sleeps as part of a plan to get him to draw doujinshi. Both shows were done by KSS/Aquaplus.

It was unfortunate these were released in the US in the reverse order, people who saw Comic Party first would not get the reference. Still, I'm very thankful to RightStuf for bringing these over, regardless.

Isn't My-Otome nothing but a cross-over? Or maybe it isn't regarded as that because that is its premise.

No, it's a spin-off, not a cross-over.
