If I remember correctly, Castle in the Sky and Kiki's Delivery Service were released shortly after Spirited Away was on video. They might be trying something similar with Howl's Moving Castle. I've seen all three of these, and while I would like to own Porco Rosso sometime, this doesn't upset me as much as the inevitable delay to the Takahata DVDs.
I hope Disney fails soon. I hope to God they go bankrupt. The company depresses me too much. It's like taking a sick old dog that you used to love out behind the barn and shooting it. |

I hope the following at http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=businessNews&storyID=5510453, courtesy of Roy's site, has nothing to do with it: "..."We are reducing our investment in our film businesses," Eisner said in a small meeting with investors and a Wall Street analyst that the company Webcast...."

I don't think that article would apply to the Miyazaki/Takahata dvd releases. They'd be way past the point of no return in production by now. It sounds more like they may be moving them to accompany a possible advanced release of Howl as others have suggested; that article is a nice insight--btw: Disney's currently working on a script for either one or two future Pirates of the Carribean films, perhaps filmed at the same time like Jackson's LOR.
However, concerning future Ghibli titles. . . that'd be something else entirely. [EDIT] I just noticed there was over a year's difference in the release dates between Japan and the U.S. for Spirited Away. I don't believe (translated hope to god not) that the delay now is to accompany Howl. [EDIT 2] I'm gonna wish I didn't post any of this. Disney held on to Laputa without releasing it for what felt like forever, so they could just as easily do that with these titles as well. So, I went to AnimeNation to find the original news posting about the delay--saw the word indefinitely. Anyway, I followed the link to the main Digital Bits website, but I couldn't find the original article on it. Can someone post a link? Thanks! |

It's just an "indefinate delay, we're trying to find out why"

2005, according to DVDFile. Digital Bits is saying the delay might have to do with promoting the Howl theatrical release.

actually, they were all three released on the same day. Gee... after this board i'm not so sure i like disney anymore! I'm super eager to see the new totoro. Can disney really not care so much about anyone anymore? They seem as bad as 4kids! |
