I must admit that I never watched enough of Bamboo Blade to determine if it was a moe nightmare or merely a lighthearted show about girls in a kendo club.

Definitely a lighthearted show about girls in a kendo club. It's just a fun show 100% devoid of fanservice. Not in the locker scenes. Not in the bedroom scenes. Not even in the bath house seen (if you can even call it a bath house scene, it was literally, girls walk into bath house, girls walk out of bath house, that was the scene). If it was a moe ogle fest I probably wouldn't have been that interested, but as an actually entertaining and genuinely funny show it was very enjoyable. It's unfortunate that it got the shaft when it came to making a game. A genuine opportunity to attempt making a good kendo simulator missed.

I have to wonder --and will probably regret it-- what about Time Leap uses Xbox Live? Content downloads I guess?

It always manages to irk me how Bamboo Blade went far under the radar thanks to everyone thinking it'd be a damn harem show (despite not even having a [expletive] male protagonist) it's a very excellent show with amazing directing and a lot of deep themes that might make you think. Also a whole episode is dedicated to fanboying over Goro Taniguchi, which is plain win.

Actually I was hoping it was a moe filled show, Anime hyper but instead it ended up pretty boring and I was left dissapointed...

Also, Time Leap totally looks import worthy. Atleast if I had a 360. Cool

Darn, combat was the one thing I wanted less of in Steambot Chronicles!

Hmm, a new Tales game for the Wii, I might rent it if just to get some use out of my Wii. I'd probably want to play Vesperia more though, although my favorite is still Legendia as of now.

Bamboo Blade was boring as shit as compared to other titles that were coming out at the time. That's right a complete snorefest.Of course,I'm still bitter because of a series I bought called Wandaba style that made me utterly abhor go nowhere,do nothing series like Bamboo Blade.I will never go back to that again. What can the PSP game offer that the series didn't already sink into the ground?

I wouldn't mind Queens Blade for PSP though. Very Happy

Cool you mentioned UMIHARA KAWASE,Todd.I've still got the game for my Super Famicom in storage.I used to play the hell out out of it all the time.

YES! Can't wait to get BLAZBLUE! Finally.

I remember DeCap Attack from one of the first video game mags I ever bought. So basically it was a more extensive version of the revamping that went into Super Mario Bros. 2 (U.S. version).

Well, it's a fully 3-D “adventure” game, a rarity in a genre that still sticks to the low expectations of cheap 2-D artwork whenever it can.

2D artwork can be quite expensive. Go here to see the production costs. http://zepy.momotato.com/2008/09/09/eroge-production/

Time Leap is also unclouded in its imitation of NAMCO Bandai's The iDOLM@ASTER series, as Time Leap has its female cast dressing up in demeaning outfits and dancing around.

They're typical outfits that are seem in a variety of anime. I guess 80% of anime has demeaning outfits?

Quote:
Yes, The iDOLM@ASTER is just that popular among Japan's meager Xbox 360 owner base. And no, Time Leap has nothing to do with The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

In 2008 THE IDOLM@STER downloadable content was third highest selling in the world. http://www.aeropause.com/2008/01/the-idolmaster-dlc-japanese-crack/

So I'm not sure what is "meager" about them. The tremendous amount of money spent? The enthusiasm of the fanbase? Neither of those are meager.

Chances for a Domestic Release: Non-existent. Thank God.

Got my pre-order for BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

But it's for the Standard version not the LE version.

Why is that a difference, some are wondering? Besides price and coming with less goodies (LE comes with Artbook and OST) those who are wanting the Standard version also have to wait a month after the LE version is released. I can't imagine what an anime fans reaction would be if distributors where to take that kind of release schedule. (Actually yes I can, a lot of complaining.)

How the hell could you not mention Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor in this article? It should have been the main focus of it! You guys are slacking.

Also, although I know nothing of Time Leap and probably wouldn't even like it, your review of it annoyed me. Stop being so biased against Visual Novels and eroges. This isn't even either of those since all the erotic content has been removed and it's more of a dancing game than a Visual Novel.

Like it or not, this genre is a huge reason why Japan's gaming economy is so large. Without eroges we would not have such epics as Fate/stay night, Tsukihime, Saya no Uta, Air, or Kanon. Don't forget the non-H Visual Novels as well. Without Visual Novels in general (which you still take shots at) we wouldn't have Chaos;Head or Clannad. Not only is the VN genre itself so big but it also makes for the basis of Japan's biggest anime. There are thousands of genres within the VN genre itself, so you roping them all together and being biased against them is just ignorant and annoying. Proving you know nothing about this sub-culture.

I'll agree it should atleast have gotten an honorable mention Smile.

All he did was point out that most VN's are "cheaply made" and thats a fact so is the blatant Idolm@ster ripoff.

Japans gaming economy was so large because they produced tons of games for the earlier consoles and most of the industry was located in japan at the time (back in the day when games did not have several million $ budgets).
Visual Novels are not a huge genre they have a rabid fanbase but they generally sell in quantities of 1000-100000 which makes them a niche genre and aren't most of them actually doujin games meaning they have little or no impact on the overall industry. Also you must be aware that these "visual novel anime adaptations" are otaku pandering at it's best(there are exceptions) and the anime stemming from it are nowhere near japans biggest animes
