I think Gushing definitely represents the Christmas spirit as much as any of the classics, Utena is all about the spirit of giving

Cementing the Big O/Batman connection is that a lot of the staff at Sunrise who worked on Big O previously did work on Batman: The Animated Series.

Big O was one of the first anime series I ever stumbled across, and all these years later it's still probably my sentimental favorite. Like Steve said, it just oozes cool from every pore, right down to its spectacular jazzy soundtrack. And the second season turns into one big glorious mind**** that has lived rent-free in my head for nearly two decades. Glad to see the love for the original Trigun too. I'm a bit bummed by the reaction to Utena, though I can certainly understand it. I watched one of Ikuhara's later works Penguindrum before going back to it, so I was already very used to his...idiosyncracies.

Too bad there’s no where to stream Big O. And the Blu-ray is OOP…

Revolutionary Girl Utena is my favorite anime of all time, but it wasn't until *rewatching* it that I truly appreciated it. I can definitely see how one might bounce off of it.

Also nice to see some discussion of Big O. While I'm kind of iffy on where the story went in season 2, there's no denying how much style it has.

Dang, that last bit has me imagining GoMG Utena in a Sexy Santa Suit making out with Leopard as a scantily clad Elf and now I really want to see that! But I don't know where~~~

Between Cowboy Bebop, OG Trigun, and Big O, the late 90's may have been the Silver Age of "no plot, just vibes" anime

I respectfully submit that Gushing Over Magical Girls is the quintessential Trashy Anime That You Love But Dare Not Recommend!

Yep, I wanted to drop by to mentioned this too. I was a bit surprised that Sunrise (now Bandai-Namco Filmworks) didn't get involved with Batman: Gotham Knight, nor any other Batman properties, and it's a damn shame. I wondered if there's any chance of a Batman: anime TV series given the success of Batman: Ninja, and the upcoming release of the sequel. I hope to see Sunrise/Bandai-Namco could work with WB again on a Batman anime TV series which would really really be interesting for me. I also hold out hope that studio could get involved in Star Wars: Visions in the near future given the way they do sci-fi genre in the past.
