I think the central idea I'm trying to get across is: "I hate Kid's Story and anything animated like it." Kill Bill's anime sequence was animated like it, so I assumed it was the same artists and not just a different group ripping off their "style." If that is an incorrect assumption, I apologize, but I still hate both works anyway. If there is a list of names of the people who designed and animated both works, I'd like to see it.

Now, moving on, the original article in this mentioned that the Kill Bill animators would be working on this video. Following my earlier train of thought, I figured the video would be filled with messy-looking, distorted animation as well.

Shinichiro Watanabe's name was brought up in referrence to Kid's Story, and I explained how that fits into this. I do not hold him responsible for messy-looking animation, as Cowboy Bebop is one of the cleanest-looking shows I've ever seen, complete with the fresh scent of pine.

Production IG's Ghost in the Shell work looks very clean. So Kill Bill was a style choice that the company thought would fit the film. I never saw Kid's Story but if it looks the same it was probably a style choice too.

I'm confused...and that doesn't happen often.

You know what would help? Using quotes in this thread. Just some friendly criticism.

I saw it on the college MTV station thingy my college runs. Basically just a constant recycling of about nine or ten videos with the occasional MTV News report.

But if you're going to debate semantics about the quality of their music versus a band like Rage Against the Machine (I think someone mentioned them before) then you'd better be willing to admit that there isn't much sonic quality there either.

And, by the way, The Clash sent out the Socialist dogma a lot better than those guys.

Wow Shocked ...I guess this is what we get for discussing contemporary tunes in an anime forum. By the way, The Clash was just a watered down rip-off of a group called The Crass, so the Clash itself was something in the way of a marketing scheme. I find it hard to believe they get half of the credit that they do, but I digress. So we agree to disagree, on all terms. And shout out to my lone TooL fan in there Cool Good looking out.

Marketing and anime...etc. this all seems so moot to me. What is interesting, however, is that with both artforms, anime and music, the discussion spirals around the concept of art vs. profit. It is up to us, teh consumers, to decide what is art and what is marketing sludge.

Never said The Clash was musically talented, though London Calling has its moments, just that they were better at expressing a radically socialist political dogma (a dogma I fundamentally disagree with in the first place) than Rage Against the Machine, who to me seem heavy handed and preachy as opposed to emotionally charged and commentative.

And in any case, I'm not a punk fan in the least. Ferchrisssakes, concert I'm most looking forward to this year is Rush at Blossom Music Center on June 7th. Rush is quite possibly the best thing Canada ever spawned.

Tempest and Molson tie for second.

Linkin Park's members like anime. They are trying to get more fans. Which means more money. Don't like it? Don't watch it. And not all of I.G.'s work is "Sloppy big black obscured lines", just take a look at ghost in the shell. Or FLCL.
Just a sidenote. In FLCL they do make a paraody of the Kid's Story and the Kill Bill animation sequence's "style". On the directors commentary the director stated that
Quote:
We were putting in a cool style of this one artist...

Maybe they worked with him during the Kill Bill scene? Or he worked on Kid's Story. FLCL came out before the animatrix was released and I had never seen kids story, when I saw that parody it did loook familiar though.

Anyway, finally saw the video. That...was ugly. Just looked like a failed attempt at rotoscoping with that "gritty Dr. Katz" sketchiness to it. The attempts to match the band members' faces came off especially poor...either that or I never realised how hideous the members were.

Yeah I didn't particularly like it either. It wasn't awful but it just felt as if no real effort was actually put into it. They tried to make it sketchy but it didn't really work unlike in Kill Bill.

I still think it's the fault of one or two people, just not the director. Just as one actor can work any number of directors or organizations, one artist can work under any number of directors or organizations.

What I meant to say is that linkin park's shallow lyrics and merely passable musical talent offend my deeper anime sensibilities. In a world where the music in anime is getting better and better, having a garbage band like them anywhere near the stuff disturbs me.

That makes absoultely no sense. "Deeper anime sensibilities", what the hell is that supposed to me? Sure on occasion there might be an anime that is also a musical masterpiece (like Cowboy Bebop) but not every anime is all about having masterpeice works of art soundtracks or mind blowing animation and style, or trying to defy an brillent level of story and character. I mean lets face it, the anime industry can be like the music industry in just about every way. There are a the fair share of masterpieces (Cowboy Bebop), the more popular trendy stuff (Pokemon), the average every day stuff anyone will pick uo(Gundam) and the bottom pit kind of stuff that is enterly made up of its own dedicated fanbase (Sailor Moon). But also you got oddjobs that are made to sell because sex sells (Eiken), and taking on whats been done before and selling it again (Love Hina), or bringing back what was already over back again (Evangelion).

See what I mean? The anime industry is soooooo much like the music industry if you stop and think about it.

I thought the Kill Bill animator was the same one who did that trash "Kid's Story" in The Animatrix. It had the same messy black lines all over the place and weird deformities cropping up whenever the characters moved.

No, Kid's Story actually had something to say.

It (the Kill Bill animated sequence) also looked slightly like Detective's Story.

Anyway, good for Linkin Park. They're promoting anime, and that is a good thing. I do like the band, though I don't really like the song much...

Shocked

OK, I don't know how albums like Sandanista! and London Calling, which have good musicianship and a variety of musical styles, can be considered "a watered down rip-off of Crass" who, by the way, formed a year after The Clash.

If you go to LP's official site they have a clip for it. And it looks very much like Kids Story. Exclamation
Also if you remember the Pts. Of Auth. video they looked like they were refrencing the CG giant robo genre.
