Yeah, this seriously isn't about Hello Kitty going punk, it is about the merger between a massively popular visual kei band and a merchandizing icon. After the Hello Kitty X Gloomy Bear crossover (complete with blood stains on Kitty's face) nothing that little white cat does can disturb me...

If you think that's harcore, never go to a straightedge concert- my brother's come home from those missing teeth before.
This is just another branch of the ever-growing Hello Kitty tree... she's long since grown out from 'adorable children's mascot' to 'alterna-icon for any subculture that might like Asian stuff.' (In case the Hot Topic Hello Kitty line wasn't a tipoff.)
Honestly, I really like it- I'd never buy anything with that version on it (I'm a Chococat fan, m'self), but it's got a nice flow to it- especially the hair.

It's not her first music thing, either. They made T.M.Revolution-themed Hello Kitty merchandise a few years back.

Yeah, and she also did crossovers with Megumi Hayashibara and Shoko-tan. Definitely not a "first." Although still cool.

Kitty's also collaborated with Ayumi Hamasaki's Ayupan collections, both in a 2007 Ayupan and the 2009 PCDL goods.
AyupanxHello Kitty is cute but this Kei Kitty looks ugly to me. I guess I'm used to cute Kitty so it having strange hair is wierd. I think it would look better without the blonde hair, maybe if it was just black and spiky and was a bit shorter.....

Last year, we purchased h.NAOTO x Hello Kitty keychain figurines from a coin dispenser in Tokyo. One of them has little skulls on almost every piece of her clothing and also the F-word on her back. It's actually incredibly cute!
