Well... as I remember, most of the time they pronounce it in the Japanese way... Though it could be just the commercials I saw. (Japanese seem to be a bit inconsistent in pronouncing "r" in foreign words, anyway... In the German names in Legend of Galactic Heroes, they're sometimes pronounced in the German way, like "Rainharuto" for Reinhard, and sometimes in the English way, like "Osukaa" for Oskar.)

Well, that has more to do with how the Japanese cadence goes. In English we go "up" at the end of a sentence, while they go down. So more emphasis is placed on the starting syllables.

Yeah, but I was talking about German, not English. To my best knowledge (I don't actually speak the language), German trills its "r"s, while English doesn't (that's why non-stressed "r"s in English words are pronounced as "a"s in Japanese, eg. "doa", "door"). This is why it's strange to see most of the German names (like Oskar or Mittermeyer) written and pronounced according to the English system, ie., without the "r"s, while in other cases (such as Reinhard), all "r" are pronounced, as they should be.

But this is getting very offtopic... :)

Well, good for L'Arc~en~Ciel. I'll definitely pick this up, and here is hoping for an Australian release (because I live there).

SMILE is a top album, and they really seem to embrace hyde's love for Marilyn Manson, which is particularly shown on track eight, REVELATION. Anyway, it's good and everyone should buy it.

Good luck for them in the US... hope they (and their management) will do better than they did last time. And I really hope hyde won't start using more English (that is, more than he already does) in his lyrics... He's a great lyricist, but his English lyrics are pretty mediocre.

That is all part of the charm that all J-Pop/J-Rock artists have.

And as if there was any doubt about the whole "Laruku" thing being a fangirl/boy fabrication, hear them say their name with Tofu's welcome message from the band:

I don't think there ever WAS any doubt. Almost all Japanese bands have short nicknames. The main issue has always been the validity of American fans saying it.

eigoMANGA's with a local Tower Records store is trying a head up a fan-petition in order to get L'arc En Ciel to California sometime since fans from the west coast will have a tough time making it to Maryland.

Just a heads up but they are going start it at their booth at Anime Expo.
