I still have a few volumes to go before reaching 7 and 8, but I've seen the anime which has these storylines and can't agree more with how fun it is. I especially do like how the hook-up between Risa and Otani takes time without being overly drawn out, like so many other series out there (manga or otherwise!).

I need to go buy more of this series.

(also it would be nice to have the anime licensed *looks at Viz and other companies*)

dit-to! I can just hear in my mind particular VAs' voices when reading Otani's and Risa's lines. I just have trouble remembering their names. Embarassed And I personally prefer sub to dub - I just don't care for the distraction of subtitles while watching the action on the screen.

Yes, you do! This is the one manga that I anxiously wait for the next pre-ordered volume - #9 should be here in the next day or two. I usually drop whatever I'm currently reading to devour the new tankouban when it arrives. Okay, so I'm a rabid fanboy (at least in private). I just love the back-and-forth banter between Risa and Otani and crack up whenever I see Risa's "fish face".

I was wondering, has anyone had seen the live action movie and what are their thoughts on it? The dvd cover makes it appear that Otani is played by a female, but I think it is just that I am not seeing it correctly.

No, Otani is played by a guy, and both he and the girl who play Koizumi are okay in their parts, but the movie as a whole is not as good as the anime or manga. They tried to squeeze too much of the story into the movie's timeframe, and they assume too much prior information on the viewer's part. It was probably hard to cast the parts for the height discrepancy, too, as the actors don't have as much difference as the manga and anime shows.

But, all that aside, they did manage to catch some of the sweet and heartbreaking scenes from the story, even if they did stray somewhat from the Mighty storyline. The girl playing Koizumi was a high-schooler or at least college-age, and I think the guy playing Otani was close in age too. The actor playing Mighty, though, was old enough to start getting into the "creepy middle-aged guy hitting on high-schoolers" stereotype (I can say that, since I'm a middle-aged guy and desperately trying to avoid the "creepy" tag ^__^)

At any rate, I bought it, watched it, and am keeping it, because it's good enough (and I'm a completist! Anime smile) for a re-watch.

Thanks for the info. It doesn't sound to be as bad as I was imagining. I'll try to catch it on a rental sometime.

*sigh*

I really have to read this sometime.

I saw the anime and loved it. Both the main leads were likeable and funny. I usually end up annoyed at one or the other in alot of shoujo. Not this time. Otani is very boyish and acts as such. He doesnt look too old for his age and he doesnt act like a tease. He's very much a teen and he does get confused.

Risa while she does cry alot at times is still somehow more likeable then most shoujo leads. For me anyway. She has this spunk. Plus she makes the funniest face expressions in the anime. I loved the part where she was depressed and playing a dating game. So creepy but so funny. *goes to search*.... Couldnt find a screenshot. Darn. I just love that scene. Especially with her mom crying in the background.

Otani and Risa make a funny comedic couple. Its refreshing.

I also liked her friends. Especially that one crazy girl who kept trying to push them together and treated Risa like her daughter. I think her name was Nobu.
