Viz has recently started the VizBig line, which include some completed series in omnibus form. Rurouni Kenshin, the first VizBig title to be released, put out its first volume in January, and the second volume is scheduled for an April release. Though appearing in Shonen Jump magazine's monthly manga news section, the second volume hasn't shown up in any bookstores or online. Viz is always very consistent in their releases, (*COUGH*, unlike ADV with Cromartie and Yotsuba number six*COUGH*) so I'm not worried just yet. Does anyone have any other expectations for the VizBig line, all I know is that Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Fushigi Yugi, and Vagabond will also get VizBig editions. I also suspect that in a couple of years I''s will get a VizBig edition.
Does anyone have any news on Ruro Ken, or any judgements or questions or predictions on this new line.

Eh, not really. They've been good lately but in the past they've left buyers in the dark on many of their releases; anyone remember when they switched Vagabond from quarterly to monthly with no notice (which is particularly bizarre since they were going to catch-up with the Japanese releases due to the break Inoue took)? Communication between the publisher and the public has always been a problem of theirs.
As for your question, amazon lists it as having a release date of May 27th. Sometimes certain bookstores or comic shops will get their Viz books a week or two early, so you might be able to find it before then if your lucky.

I can understand the Kenshin frustration. I'm not sure what happened, but Amazon reposted the release date as May 27, 2008. Then offered it available for sale. (You can buy a copy off Amazon right now I just don't know what is the expected ship date - there's where Amazon gets you.) I haven't seen Kenshin 2 in my local Borders or BN so I'm assuming that the reposted release date may be valid.

So crossing my fingers, Kenshin 2 should be out at the end of the month. (Hopefully just after Memorial day.)

For your second question, you have all of the VIZBIG titles I know of. I do check Amazon on occassion to see if anything new is posted since Amazon seems to love posting release dates a long time in advance. So far nothing new I've seen.

Also, yeah, unfortunatley Viz isn't the best at release dates, but they are on average pretty on time. You did site some great example of slow release dates (Yotsuba&! and a personal irratation with Ghost Hunt). But if you want to see SLOW release dates (and not on the fault of the publisher) look up Hellsing manga. Vol 9 is finally going to be released after what 1.5 years? Yeah, I'm going to stop this before it becomes a rant.

All in all, check the shelves after the 27th.

Thanks a lot for the Kenshin release date, and I'm having the exact same frustration with Hellsing. And Yotsuba, Cromartie, who knows when they'll come out.

I'm pretty sure VIZBIG is just a series of English Kanzenbam. Just so you people know.

Yeah the covers are different on them, the Japanese Rurouni Kenshin Kanzenban look awesome. They also have a sword on the spines. Anime cry

Oh lord, don't remind me Evil or Very Mad If I didn't love it so much, I might have given up on it around volume 7.

As for future releases for the Vizbig line, I'm hoping Monster will be added to line up (hopefully sometime in 2009) since the final volume is scheduled to be released in December in North America. I've been renting the current volumes from my library, but I would happilly buy an omnibus style release of this series.

I'm hoping that I''s will get the VIZBIG treatment, since it's the perfect number of vols. and relatively old. I think Banana Fish might get one too. If anybody wants to check out the Vagabond VIZBIG, it's awesome.

Yeah, I didn't know about VizBig line until I saw Dragonball at my local Barnes&Nobles. I picked up the first volume and am enjoying it so far. This is a great idea for new manga readers. It's kind of cheap for three volumes and easy to keep track at what you are at.

Anyone else satisfy with this new line Viz has made?
