Everything has to start small, but will 20 episodes of Naruto be enough to satisfy fans of such a show?
Astro Boy 2003 sounds interesting though. |

This is actually pretty neat and the quality is not bad, but then I only saw two episodes. The Mushi-shi episode I watched looks pretty darned good in full screen, it was a lot better than the Death Note episode. It seems they are using the same format for DN they originally used when they were selling it for 1.99 online, so that probably affects the quality because you can't really go full screen on a wide screen monitor. The commercial interruptions seem to be limited to 15 second ads, which is not bad at all. I hope this does well and other companies jump on board.

I'd say that BOST has Funimation beaten hands down - simultaneous worldwide release of DRM-free downloads, none of which Funi has managed to deliver. If they get a large enough userbase and viewership they may be able to offer some sort of ad system/monthly fee and more shows in the future, but they're too small to do this right now which is a real shame. |

One of the key differences here, as I see it, is that this is a free service to the user. While BOST charges something like two dollars per episode, this appears to be generating nothing but ad-based revenue.
I haven't visited the site, but I truly hope this works out for hulu and the folks involved. It's another step in the right direction. |

I was already a big hulu fan, so this is awesome news. Hopefully we'll see their Naruto collection expand... although as I've already seen them all (and own most of the uncut DVD collections) it doesn't really affect me.

I agree. hulu is awsome.
I hope that FUNi puts up some subbed episodes of its series and puts up some One Piece. I also hope that Viz Media puts up Full Moon. |

I think the biggest part of this is that Hulu is actually respectable to a normal person. Having anime on the same site as normal network shows is huge. Can you imagine what would happen if a persons first time introduction to anime was through Crunchy? They would crap in their pants at how ridiculous that site is.
Crunchy hurts adoption of anime, hopefully anime on Hulu will be successful. |

I agree, I think anime on a mainstream site like Hulu could be successful, I just hope they balance out things as far as subs and dubs go. Not to knock on anime being subtitled in english, but you need dubs to reach out the casual viewers. I've actually come across people oblivious enough to say something as stupid as "I wish I knew what they were saying?" while watching something, animated or live-action that was in another language but with subtitling.

Judging from the name, Hulu must be based in Hawaii.
LuckySeven, I agree with you on that point. Most newbies would not be used to watching subtitled anime. Dubbed anime, on the other hand, helps them get much more immersed on the series they watch. Tis' the sad truth, as most people may inadvertently end up seeing english dubs of questionable quality. |

Yes! Finally! THIS is the way to do it! Assuming that they keep a permanently viewable archive of series' like Naruto up and running, THIS is the direction it should be going in. And mind you, I'm saying this as someone who can't even view Hulu.com.
And I can't for the life of me understand why people think that BOST as a superior model for digital viewing. You're forced to pay a significant amount of money for what amounts to a proprietary, web-based rental. What casual viewer is even going to consider something like that compared to the type of service Hulu.com provides? |
