I'd say the library handled this appropriately. Moving the section if people were offended was smart. It was also smart to order so much if there was really that much demand. In no way was it a waste of tax money if that's what people are wanting to read.

So there's no other naughty books in the entire library collection? It seems like a case of singling out one genre--one in high demand apparently.

Sounds like they handled it well. However, just the same, maybe those libraries should consider building up their military force.

Wow… that 'citizen' sounds almost American in his (her?) complaining. Though I do admit, over 1000 vols. of BL manga per library does sound like a bit much. One wonders what the demographic is for the library patrons.

Probably 90% female... you would not find any self respecting male otaku in a library... he would own the books outright...

I disagree. I read most of the Nausicaa manga from copies that were at my local library before I went and bought the whole thing for myself, and also read parts of Ranma ½, Rurouni Kenshin, and Akira. Heck, I'm currently reading Death Note off of library copies (although I have to request those since it's popular.)
Doesn't get much better than being able to legally read manga for free.

...or, what is more probable, a library would be way outside his usual territory.  Seriously, what makes you assume that male otaku buy stuff whereas females don't?

I'm kind of curious as to whether this is softcore or hardcore BL. If the former, then I see no problem at all, but if the latter, I can definitely see where there would be some concern. Well, I don't know but about library policies or whatever, but I would imagine that most don't really support pornography? Then again, I have no clue.

I'd love to get $34,000 to spend on manga at my Southern Orange County city library in California. It's bad enough where some of the more innocent things get comments. I can imagine spending money on anything that yaoi. But I'm glad to see that anti-censorship standards are international.
