I never got into Star Trek or anything related to Star Trek, but I never thought Star Trek would ever become a manga.

But if this series actually sells, I can't blame Tokyo Pop for licensing this series. Considering the finanical troubles they've had over the last couple of months.

I accept that everything Tokyopop publishes is indeed manga, insofar as I accept that "I can't believe it's not butter" is indeed butter.

I love "Star Trek", but who's idea was it to turn it into a manga? That just doesn't seem right. And that cover art doesn't help.

That really is a good question. Considering this show was on televison for several decades, one would think that would be enough pubicity, but appartently not.

If by any chance fans of the Star Trek series purchase this series, then I am sure this was well worth the license.

I've been reading Star Trek comics since back when Next Gen was on the air. Back then they were at DC. I liked those. Then DC's license ran out. Marvel then got it and put out some good short lived ones under a Paramount imprint. In particular there was a good one about the pre-Kirk Enterprise with Captain Pike.

Now we have two companies with a license to produce Star Trek comics. You have TokyoPop with their full graphic novels and IDW is also publishing a number of comics. I can't keep up. Of course hearing that TokyoPop is releasing a hardcover with color pages, I'm glad I never picked this up. Then again, that also rather sucks. It's almost a screw you to the fans who supported the book in the first place. Just seems like an odd way of publishing hardcovers.

Meanwhile, both TokyoPop and IDW have comics coming out for another franchise I've loved since I was a kid. Ghostbusters. I'll also wait and see on those ones. Didn't order either from my local shop.

I won't even bother complaining about TokyoPop's bastardization of the word manga in this thread. I've complained enough else where. I will just comment that the Japanese kanji seems almost random on the cover and looks very out of place. This is a book created in English, why is there Japanese on the cover? Is that supposed to fool us? C'mon. We're Trekkies. We're some of the most nitpicky geeks out there. You are not going to fool us. Maybe they're trying to turn weeaboos into Trekkies? I don't know.
