The debut of Dot-Con, which comes to Toronto, will have many fans all excited with the voice stars listed at their web site....but subject to cancellation of course.
The event is at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Toronto-Markham on November 15 & 16, 2008. Admission is $40 at the door for both days, but only $35 if you pre-order before October 1. - Caitlin Glass (wish her a happy birthday on November 16) - Cherami Leigh - Kari Wahlgren (Witch Hunter Robin fans would love to meet her) - Chris Patton (was at the Anime Con back in March 2008) Other guests include Camino, Artbeat, Niverse, Misako Rocks! and Kaze-Hime. Masakazu Morita who does Ichigo Kurosaki in the original Bleach anime series, will be attending this event. So for those that met Johnny Yong Bosch, here is your opportunity to meet the Japanese counterpart. Hope to see you at this new convention. The original hotel at Holiday Inn at King was doing extensive renovations, which is why the event had to be relocated.

For those that need to get this event it's off Highway 404 by going a little ways north on Woodbine Ave. just north of Steeles Ave. East.
If you're taking the TTC: From Finch subway station you connect to 53B Steeles East which you travel towards Woodbine & Steeles and walk a little ways north on Woodbine. From Scarbrough Centre, you need to acquire a transfer from their auto machine. You get on the 21 Brimley bus going north to Steeles and use the transfer to the 53B Steeles East bus going west to Woodbine and it's only a short walk to the event. |

The one thing that concerns me is there registration policy:
http://www.dot-con.com/maruko/reg_policies.htm Identification will be required to pick up passes for pre-registered individuals as well as those registering at the door. The following is acceptable for this purpose: * Driver’s license * Ontario Identity Card * Dotcon Membership Card or Passport * Citizenship card * Passport * Any photo ID (eg. work ID) WITH any other ID that shows your birth date (eg. birth certificate) If an attendee does not have any identification, they will not be able to pick up pre-registered passes nor purchase a convention pass at the door. I can understand asking for ID if you have pre registered, or if there was going to be alcohol served. But there is no booze, and if you are paying by cash at the door, it shouldn't matter who you are so long as your cash is real and you behave. None of the other anime cons require this and nether does Paradise Comicon. Heck, to vote in the October elections, you didn't even need picture ID - just a government card and mail that shows where you live. |

Anyone at this con, and furthermore, has anyone met kari wahlgren yet? I would be there myself but I have too much school work and by the time I took a bus to Toronto (I live about an hour and a half away driving) and back, it would leave me no time to study Too bad, I was really looking forward to it. Hope whoever is there is having a great time, also, let us know whats there, like figures or statues or watever, cause it seems to be more about japans culture than say an Anime North convention.

I went on the Saturday, and Kari Wahlgren wasn't there. Apparently she had to do some work for Disney and could not make it to the con. And no they did not end up asking for picture ID, at least not me anyway. Which was good, but there was no schedules until like 2pm, which was bad.
Actually, for all the talk about being an "East Asia" cultural event, there really wasn't much there aside from anime and J-rock. There was a lion dance at the beginning, and that's it. There wasn't even any gaming. There may have been panels related to other things but since there was no schedule, I really couldn't tell you much about what else was there other than the voice actors. |

heh, good thing I didn't go, or else i would've been pissed since I mainly wanted to go to meet Kari Wahlgren. I can't believe they didn't post anywhere that she couldn't make it. Kinda disappointed they didn't have other Japanese stuff there like they said they would. Kinda makes me consider twice bout going there next year.
