Anime Conventions can be expensive...but if you know where to look you can find some pretty sweet deals!
Many booths have been selling individually packed DVD's for cheap since the box sets have become popular in the industry...and first edition volumes of older manga (such as Ranma 1/2 ) are now sold for cheap prices too.
Probably the best deal I ever received was 6 volumes of newer, random volumes of manga I needed for only $10!!
What's the best deal you've gotten at a convention?

I haggle when I go to cons. A boxset may be priced $80 and I'll haggle the price down to $50 or so. Sometimes, they just want to sell the stuff, and don't mind the hit.

I thought my $5 manga guy was a deal, but apparently not lol. Although, getting Del Rey anga for $5 is awesome to men regardless.

I spent about 20 minutes haggling with a vender at a con for $300 in anime, and the final price i got him down to was only $5 less than what it would have cost me had i just went to my local bestbuy. So I don't buy anime at con's anymore, unless it's something out of print/hard to find.

Every time I see what people are spending money at con's on , it just reminds me how many people either don't have access to the internet, or don't know how to use it.

Not entirely true but its sadly true enough to make me cry.

At megacon I snagged about 40 volumes of Manga for $2 a pop. Some random stuff as well as a few goodies like Claymore, Saber Marionette, Video Girl Ai, Genshiken, School Rumble, Rozen Maiden, etc

Also snagged the .Hack//Sign Hexagonal boxset with pins for $30 in mint shape as well as Jungle De Ikou and the Maze OVA for $3 a pop.

Theres alot of overpriced crap but some real gems if you look thru and find the right vendors.

Probably the best deal I can remember is there's this one vendor my now ex-gf and I went to at every con. A real nice guy. he does art prints and other things. Well he normally charges $5 per print and 5 for $20 bucks. Well at one con we both were deciding on what 5 we wanted to buy for ourselves. When he runs out he runs out minus his originals he has. Well we talked about various series/characters and the 2 I wanted he had mentioned he only had his originals left. He gave me both of them and said he could just make more and update them. Not only that he had me pick out a normal 5 for $20 bucks and gave me the originals for free since he knows we always hit him up 2-3 times a year for the past 4 years at all the cons in the area.

I find that the biggest deals at the conventions are the mangas. Usually the dvds tend to be jacked up - now I only buy manga at the cons. Though I did get a few great dvd deals a couple of years ago. I got the L/R limited edition box for only $5, Yugo the Negotiator volume 1 with box for $3 and all my Human Crossing dvds for like $4 each. Otherwise, I find most of the dvds to be similarily priced to Bestbuy. For manga, I usually get the 5 books for $25-$30 - which is actually quite a good deal considering books are so more expensive in Canada.

Yeah, I agree, I've gotten much better deals on manga than anime at cons. I've bought a *lot* of manga for $2-3 a volume at cons. I've scored some out-of-print ADV stuff for cheap at cons, though...I remember I paid $5 a volume for the first 7 volumes of Aura Battler Dunbine, and that was at a comic con, even, not an anime one....
