I was just finally catching up on Scarlet! I know that a lot of updates have improved the experience over time, but I don't have that many issues with it outside of occasional environmental camera clipping and things at a distance being animated on 4's. I also really like a lot of the new features and how adventurous they made it feel, I like Sword and Shield but they still felt very traditional in terms of navigation and camera movement. Legends of Arceus and S/V have a truly novel feel to them and they are actually my favorites in a while just because they try so many new things instead of following in the same foot steps they always have.

All that said, a more traditional pokemon game with connectivity to newer games sounds awesome! It kind of sounds like Pokemon Stadium but powered by Pokemon Home transfers instead of putting your Game Boy cart into the N64 as well as letting you battle from your phone! It seems like the perfect way to take Pokemon on the go in your everyday life if you don't want to lug a switch around with you all day.

This feels like a natural evolution of the series and let's the competitive crowd play their battles with all the hassle of the RPG elements. This does feel like a bit of a blow to the Pokemon Showdown community though, I could certainly see Nintendo coming after them now that they're going to be offering a similar service.

I'm really curious what this will end up being. My guess is a game similar to stadium and that the battling will be largely prebuilt Pokemon and that if you want to do well you'll need actually raise stuff up yourself. That will obviously make it inferior to Showdown where you can do team builds in minutes plus a nonzero chance exists that the game will just be doubles since that is the competitive format. I don't think it's likely, singles has been the standard for the franchise and doubles is more a of a need to have games actually be doable in a tournament setting, but it could happen.

I am also curious what the scale of this will be. We see both tera and megas in the trailer and that begs the question if all the gen mechanics will be in the game. Same for what the Pokémon availability will be as well as what moves they can even use. Gen 9 dropped a LOT of moves from learn sets and my assumption is that they'll need to have moves only legal in Gen 9. Really unfair if you can use Knock Off on Kingambit when you'll need older generations for that.

I honestly didn't have much issues even when the game came out, but I probably was just lucky. I do strongly feel that if the games weren't such a technical mess they would easily be regarded as some of, if not the best, games in the franchise.
