Wow, they certainly didn't waste any time.

Can they also get home video rights to the rest of Gundam?

If they didn't waste anytime, they would've announced it before the movie was released yesterday in Japan. Still, it's nice to see official announcement.

So I'm guessing they will also be handling the series itself?

Does this mean GKids will be handling the Gundam franchise from hereon in? I hope there's a physical release of this.

It's not. You're looking at this month's calendar; this is releasing on February 28th, which is a Friday.

A relief. It’s usually on a Tuesday or Thursday.

With all the comments here, maybe I missed something along the way.
When Crunchyroll bought out Nozomi and RightStuf did the licenses for Gundam not transfer over? Is that why series like 0080, ZZ, and the like seem to be harder and harder to find?

Nobody's sure except that everything has been quickly going OOP since the Summer with the exception of the newly-released Witch From Mercury steelbooks.

I sure hope this includes Mexico, and not just the US and Canada. Considering they'll also have to do a Spanish translation, I feel I'm sure to be disappointed.

Pretty much this. I think that it's likely that the existing Gundam licenses transferred, but that CR/Sony has decided to retire all the Nozomi/RS physical releases but don't want to bother making their own yet. All the Nozomi stuff has been on super clearance deep discount at the CR store until it totally sold out and many product entries were removed from the CR store entirely. Not just Gundam, but their other series too like Tylor and Utena.
It might be that CR will print new editions with their logos or new packaging, but the old RS releases seem to be as dead as the Bandai discs right now. Witch and Cucuruz seem to be all that's alive currently, and the Nozomi announcements that happened before the buyout (like the SD Gundam stuff) have been in limbo too with no apparent products inbound from CR. So it might be a bit of a wild west situation with any new Gundam series. Maybe old ones, too.
Kinda surprised to see GKIDS throw their hat into the ring, but I could still see someone else doing the series (like Shout Factory doing the Shirobaka movie although Sentai had the TV series). I'm looking forward to this new Gundam, so I hope it just gets a physical release at all

I wonder if GQuuuuuuX will receive a Neutral Spanish dub, the only Gundam works that have received dubs in that languge have been Gundam Wing and its OVA, Hathaway, The Witch from Mercury and Requiem for Vengeance. I just hope that if GQuuuuuux gets dubbed that the dub will be made in Mexico City, because G-Witch's dub was done in Cuernavaca, and while decent it didn't really stand out, aside from Krishna Tapia as Suletta who did a great job, but there were a lot of characters that were voiced by actors which we don't have any information and for some reason Shaddiq's VA was replaced in the second part of the show. Requiem for Vengeance's dub had more experienced VAs and interestingly, it was directed by Manuel Campuzano, who voiced Heero in Gundam Wing.
Last year Bandai said they were hoping to expand the Gundam brand in Mexico and Latin America, where the only popular mecha shows are Mazinger Z, Robotech and Evangelion, and I think QGuuuuuuX could be successful if they do it well.

I'm really regretting not getting blu-rays of 0080, Gundam X, and others now when I could. But now I'm afraid of paying out the ass for it now, only for a new license, or release to come about at half the price I've paid for it... sheesh...
