i would also agree and say the true pinnacle of the villainess genre was all roads lead too doom is very accurate!
and while im in love with the villainess is close third, too many flaws hold back its potential. combined that its a yuri series will more or less prevent that anime from ever getting a season 2 and the rest of that like it will have to resort to reading the source matrrials! i would say the second pinnacle series of the genre would be "ill become a villainess who goes down in history" where unlike the other series, the protagonist alicia WANTS to be one! either way, this one definitely got potential. while they could have easily had his previous life as another rudeus, its a good thing they didn't. ALTHOUGH, this not the only anime where they had an extremely old man reincarnated as a woman! Eiyuuou, Bu wo Kiwameru Tame Tenseisu: Soshite, Sekai Saikyou no Minarai Kishi was one as well! well its a safe bet that bureaucrat to villainess first two eps is a good step in the right direction. hopefully, it wont fall under the same pitfalls as the other isekai type series! |

I watched the first episode believing I would quickly tire of the central conceit. Welp, I've got two episodes under my belt now and I am quite liking this. I can't say it won't get overly repetitive for me at some point but the humour and charm so far is carrying me along.

if it becomes enteraining like ill become a villainess who will go down in history or have the sheer zanieness as all roads leads to doom, i can say that you wont have to worry about it becoming repetitive alongs as they stay faithful to the source materials!

I've enjoyed plenty of Villainess anime in my time but this show is really knocking it out of the park with a refreshing premise, a really likeable cast (especially it's gender-flipped lead), stellar voice acting, and great production values!

The villainess genre still has a lot of works to dig for; the first one is the selfcest one, ( this is just the set up), where the japanese girl is in love with the villainess, but instead of reincarnating as the heroine or a mob like usual, she reincarnates as the villainess herself, then tries to save the villainess from her bad end, just to fail miserably. It's so bad that her soul sleeps and the villainess soul takes over again, with the villainess now having fallen in love with the japanese soul. The concept is so convoluted I love it.
And of course any villainess fan will have to pay the ".villainess role and heroine role just got swapped" tax , especially of we get more velocity on anime adaptations. And ofc I mentioned the first one because this feels like it will have soul shenanigans. |

Inoue Kazuhiko as Tondabayashi seems like a great step in a similar vein to a role he dubbed for Marvel, Uatu the Watcher.

This one ranks with Guild Receptionist as one of my two favorite new anime of the season. Even without the "dad" gimmick, I like the notion of a character who's only barely familiar with otome games trying to navigate through one, and Grace going into "dad mode" is just too funny.
Gotta say something about that ED, too. It's my favorite of the season so far. |

I absolutely didn't expect to love this show as much as I do, but it really blew it out of the park for me, and I'm really looking forward to following this every week.
And yet, no matter how much I loved it from the very first episode, that doesn't come close the amounts of delight and downright cackling the ending inspired. Because it's not only a very loving cover of a cornerstone of Japanese pop music culture, it's perfect for this show. The fact that they have character appropriate versions of Matsudaira Ken's glittery gold kimono outfit from the original just makes it better. Matsuken Samba is peak "old people" music. It's the kind of song no one under the age of 50 would ever listen to voluntarily, but if it came on at a party or something, everybody would know it and drunkenly sing along. The juxtaposition of the role of a serious samurai Matsudaira Ken played for 25 years vs the glittery kimono samurai, and the juxtaposition of down-to-earth dad vs glamorous young noblewoman probably isn't a coincidence either. I encourage anyone watching this show to check out the original (Matsuken Samba II or マツケンサンバ II - you probably gotta use 2 for search engine purposes, though), just to compare. Just beware that you'll probably be singing "Olé! Olé! Matsuken samba!" for three days straight after. Man, I can't believe they got the rights for this, what an absolute win. |

I really appreciate this information. Learning that this is a pre-existing song of that kind makes the ED even better in my eyes, lmao. Thank you! |

I almost passed on this show, but I just watched the first two episodes and I'm happy I did. This has been the best premiere of the season for me, for many of the reasons stated in the review.
I am a little bit worried about whatever romance route it might take, if it does at all. I'm not strictly against the idea, but it would certainly have to navigate with caution. |
