Probably won't ever get an anime continuation at this rate, but at least the show is out there for U.S. audiences, now. Hopefully this a sign Discotek will release those subsequent series on disc.

That's good, was worried I'd have to go looking for them. I've heard the later seasons weren't dubbed, is that true?

Yeah, when Geneon dubbed Hajime no Ippo that's all there was of the anime, New Challenger hadn't debuted yet, and Geneon never even dubbed Episode 76 or the Kimura vs. Mashiba OVA, either.

Since Ippo was a notorious bomb for Geneon there was never any interest in officially translating New Challenger until now, and when Crunchyroll originally simulcasted Rising it wasn't yet in the dubbing business, more or less.

I don’t believe so. At that point North American compared given up on the franchise.

Given the random properties Netflix has revived or given sequels to I don’t think a new Ippo is impossible, but it will likely come with a massive timeskip.

Still, more Ippo, legally. All I need now is Discotek to put these seasons out on Blu-Ray because I will buy them.

Why? Why would there be a massive timeskip if new Ippo anime was to get made? It'd just continue where it left off at, especially since New Challenger & Rising are now kind of "new" to many people watching on Netflix, so it's not like Netflix would need to do a reboot, or the like.

Because Rising ended around Chapter 430 or so, and we are on Chapter 1480. It doesn’t help that the most recent arc spoiler[is the still unresolved retirement arc, which has been more focused on wrapping up or at least advancing the subplots of numerous supporting characters]. I don’t know if they’d commit to adapting that much show.

At the same time I don’t think they’d skip everything in between either.

Truncate it maybe like they did with some stuff in New Challenger/Riaing. But otherwise not that.

OK... and?

The point wouldn't be to make the Ippo anime catch up to the Ippo manga. The point would be to adapt what comes next in the Ippo story. Sure, as mentioned, you could accelerate the adaptation a little bit, skip over small bits & pieces here & there that wouldn't really mess with the overall story, but just outright skipping from Volume 61 (where Rising stopped at) to some seemingly random spot (let's say... Volume 110?) just so that the anime could be closer to catching up to the manga's (currently) 141 volumes would be a terrible idea. Crunchyroll (sort of) did just that when it simulcasted Rising back in 2013 without ever subbing New Challenger (which, in turn, is likely why Netflix delayed the addition of these two shows until now, as they originally planned on doing so in October), and people rightfully complained about it back then.

That'd be like arguing that when Netflix got the new Baki anime back in 2018 it should have skipped New Grappler Baki & Baki Hanma, instead adapting Baki-Dou series that started in 2014 because that was newest part of the Baki manga franchise at that point, and the anime needed to catch up ASAP.
