NOTE TO NEWSROOM: The title of the film is actually "Fushigi no Kuni de Alice to -Dive in Wonderland-" (with a dash at the end as well).

Since unlike Nobuhiro Watsuki, Dodgson (aka Carroll) has been dead for more than 1¼ centuries, so we can watch this. For those who do not know, Dodgson liked to both draw and photograph naked prepubescent girls.

I wonder how this one will differ from the 1983 version (Wikipedia info here). I wonder who will pick up the US/North American right for the film? GKIDS? Netflix? Amazon?

While the term might not been around then, it is hard not to call Carroll a "pedo" because of what Piglet said. |

This seems so interesting! (But what I really want to know is who the narrator is! His voice sounds familiar, but I can't really put a name on it just yet )

Didn't expect PA Works to take on Alice in Wonderland, but why not?
Although I guess it's not too surprising there's also a Japanese protagonist. |

Komada didn't look particularly great despite the very non-intensive subject matter, but maybe tackling Alice and its surrealist imagery will bring out more in them. |

Honestly kind of genuinely stunned this is the first anime film of it given how much various anime and games absolutely love to drop Alice in Wonderland references at complete random.

Note: "Alice Liddell" is not the name of the fictional character, but the real-life young girl who was a friend of the author and contributed to the story's writing to at least some degree.
Though there was a TV anime from Nippon Animation back in 1983, and there's been others that used "Fushigi no Kuni ____" in the title, like Miyuki-chan in Wonderland. |

I'm excited for this! I love anime with surreal imagery and Alice in Wonderland, interesting that she's dragging a lady behind her who looks pretty modern in dress

I collect Alice pastiches, and… hope this one is good (few are able to match Dodgson’s whimsy and twisted logic). That this is PA Works is promising (Science Saru would be my first choice, despite Yurei Deco (Eizouken, Tatami Galaxy, more than make up for that)). PA Works did Eccentric Family, which has a lot of the right energy.
A thing worth tracking down is the 1933 film version, with WC Fields as Humpty Dumpty, Gary Cooper as the White Knight, and Cary Grant as the Mock Turtle: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_in_Wonderland_(1933_film) |
