I thought the first two episodes were pretty fun. The show has some similarities to an older anime called Lovely Bones. Both shows feature an eccentric female genius whose only point of human contact is a male assistant, and in both the investigator is motivated almost entirely by intellectual puzzles. I won't say this show is better because I only vaguely remember Lovely Bones, but this show has a lighter touch and is a bit more laid back and fast moving so far. I like the way the hospital functions as a backdrop and the title characters' family provides both stability and conflict in her life.

Episodes 1-2

I'm not ashamed to say I went into this with bubbling hope welling up in my pure, maiden heart and I was not disappointed. I recently watched the Black Jack OVAs and loved them so I was primed for some more "genius doctor gets involved in highly weird medical cases" content. Looks like this is gonna fit that bill quite nicely. In addition, it's doing a few things I also like. Minor example: I have a fetish for cool abodes that are stashed in unexpected places and Ameku's sweet roof-top pad checks that box, mightily. I dig the incipient romantic feel between long-suffering male flunky and brash (okay, obnoxious) female boss. I also like obnoxious female boss being intimidated by friendly seeming yet obviously steely older sister. Colombo stand-in? Yes, please. Strong start. Not sure if two episode cases will be the recurring formula or not, but we'll see.

...

Now, is there anything else I should be commenting on? Lemme see, lemme see... oh yes. That. Edjey, Edjey, Edjey. Edjwaldo. Edjwallawalladingdong. You know how I absolutely HATE having to correct your numerous and hilarious mistakes, right? My heart sinks EVERY TIME I am forced to reveal another of your humiliating errors. But hey, at least you made me wait over 15 hours into the new year before (inevitably) providing me with yet another opportunity to set you on the right track.

*cracks knuckles*

"Lovely Bones?" Really? I mean, there was a 2009 film directed by Peter Jackson called The Lovely Bones adapting a novel of the same name. So I guess you got the "older" part sort of right. But anime, Edjeroni? No, one rather thinks not. I *think* what your feeble powers of recall were searching for like blind mice in the dark was 2015's Beautiful Bones: Sakurako's Investigation. Ten year old show... "older anime?" Hey, I'm feeling generous today, so I'll allow it.

Buckle in, my friend, it's gonna be a looooooooong year. Wink

I really enjoyed the first two episodes of this and it wasn't even in my radar! Judging by Takanashi's reaction, I'm guessing that he has a thing for the older sister rather than Takao herself.

Dear God, it's true....I mixed the titles Lovely Bones and Beautiful Bones together and now I....now I'm going to have to live with that for the rest of my life....

....

Okay, I'm over it.

I thought the erstwhile assistant seemed a bit stunned by the older sis too, but I wasn't sure if it was being love struck or intimidated. She seems fun.

We're all just grateful your, uh, "memory" didn't cough up "Sexy Bones." Wink Yeah, it wasn't super clear cut, but I sort of interpreted Flunky's reaction to Older Sis as, "gosh, she sure is purty..."

I absolutely love House M.D. and before seeing the first episode of Ameku my hope was that the show would be atleast somewhat like it. Given the first two episodes I got enough of what I wanted to be all in. Ameku is not on drugs and being a huge ass 24/7 but she is good at what she does while being not at all easy to work with. The first mystery was solved relatively quickly yet it was interesting.

Add to that me liking most of the characters thus far, the combination of detective/doctor being killer and some lovely animation (very nice opening too) and it is my first ''gotta see all of it'' this season.

Kudos on mentioning Beautiful Bones btw, I will likely watch that one.

It's true, Smurky,Spinal Splendor is a pretty good anime Wink I remember being neutral about a few things but really liking the mysteries and the mood, and given your penchant for mystery shows, you'd probably be into it.

Not saying that this show isn't it's own beast.

Seems like the show will have longer and shorter cases with episode 3 being an example of the latter. The episode introduced doctor Junko who I have some qualms about, in particular in her wanting to make every case into a psychological one. I understand that is her department/field but outright ignoring the possibility that the video could have been the cause somehow or in the case of the flashback ignoring some inflammations do make me worry a bit (or am I being unfair?).

Otherwise the case was fun but relatively simple with handling Takao being an even bigger headache than expected (getting bitten by your boss is something else).

Given next week's case it seems like using logic to explain supernatural seeming situations is going to be a recurring theme.

Yeah, I like some aspects of mystery, but the structured stuff, much less so (e.g. the special animation when she figures something out, or the "everyone else has to be loudly stupid and stubborn" rule). It's not overbearing for this show, though, so I'll stick around.

Welp, I didn't like episode 3 as much as episodes 1 and 2, mostly because as others just commented, it's a little early for the series to start feeling formulaic.

The "Aha" moment that seems to be becoming a staple reminds me a little bit of Hyouka where the MC announced that she was interested, and oddly enough, a weird little anime called Cheat Pharmacist's Slow Life where the MC would do a little cocktail dance whenever he made a new potion. Not that the anime was meant to be taken all that seriously, but it makes it hard to take it all that seriously...

But that said, I still liked it. My first thought was that the girl had epilepsy, but then I thought the psychologist said that they'd done brain scans or something first thing, and in my uninformed state I thought that would have revealed it. The subliminal images thing was a nice red herring though.

Episode 3

Let me start off by expressing my huge relief that neither one of the cutie pie twins was seriously hurt. There outta be a law against cutie pies being harmed in anime. Anyway, now that I'm three episodes in, I think I can call it: pretty sure I'm going the distance with this one. It would have to poop the bed in a pretty significant and surprising way to make me give up on it. My only real complaint about the show is how Flunky Assistant doesn't properly appreciate the Pocket Queen. When his female colleague assumed he was dating Ameku, he should have fallen to his knees and said, "If only it was so! I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy!" Grrr, grrr. Oh well, I assume he will be smited for his emotional failing.

You can't expect a cougar-hunter to settle for house cats as game.
