I was surprised that they acted like the ship hitting the building was a surprise. As soon as Pito said for the ship to go in that direction I figured it was to obviously hit it and kill that team. There was absolutely no reason for their team to allow a chance for them to join.

I like that I called both times that Pito played possum, disguising herself as the one she killed the first time. But I was surprised with the reveal that LLEN was the betrayer all along, and kind of failed to speak up when Pito acted like she was. Although, maybe not too much as the message scene was strange.

They made a decent show of trying to "foreshadow" her collapse by her complaints of being so tired, but I still knew she was faking. It was also not surprising that the broken window was a misdirection, and ol' Davy looked kinda stupid for falling for it.

Why was the floor capable of being electrified and how did she know about it? What in-game purpose could that possibly serve (if they previously mentioned/explained that, I missed it). I couldn't quite tell where they were, but the sky above implied it was an exposed upper deck, which makes electrified-capable flooring make even less sense, unless it's for dispatching kraken or something.

One interesting thing to me is how Pitohui just took over the team leader role right off the bat. There were a lot of big egos and smart leader types in that bunch, and yet not one of them questioned her unilateral decision. I would've expected David at least would have protested "Wait, who put you in charge?" But that's often how it goes irl. Still, I wonder how it might've played out if she'd gotten some push-back on that or even gotten overruled.

I got the impression with the electrocution it wasn't that the floor could be electrified but that there was a short circuit caused by and running through the water? Which still isn't how you build a ship but I don't think this season is going to reward thinking about it.

Honestly, this arc has been dumb as a brick. Sometimes the action makes up for it, sometimes it does not. This twist is the dumbest yet but it may earn forgiveness as the final team ups resulting are sufficiently interesting.

I agree that the developments did not always make sense. That said, with episode 8 we have an end to the jam and I really liked it as a whole. Besides the sometimes lack of logic the battles were very fierce (also rather brutal) and the many betrayals kept things dynamic. The same could be said for the team betrayer element, it would not make sense in a real game but it does make for hectic fun. It was also welcome to see the other teams and players get some time in the spotlight (even Kirito got a bit of spotlight).

It kind of feels like I am writing a season review but we still have 4 more episodes to go. Seems like a non tournament arc is up next.

Back on the electrocution thing, it makes perfect sense in the videogame sense, arguably the whole point of it being in a shooting game. Just like how games always have explosive red barrels, when logically they would be incredibly dangerous to just leave lying around, if not would unlikely explode like they do.

Another moment I liked in the ending, when Eva jumped from the balcony, because it just felt like the right thing to do. Is it new knowledge that Pitohui met Kirito in the SAO beta? Kirito's avatar being the original one he had before they were all reset.

Pito's reveal is definitely from nowhere as never in S1 was that hinted, only that she played the beta and missed the full launch. I also noticed she explicitly mentioned here she had a NerveGear, which was a supposition in S1 given that she got so excited an Amusephere would have automatically disconnected. But then if so, why doesn't the headset kill her when she loses? This has been such a departure from S1 in so many areas, I still wonder if we have the same writer...

Well, some wonky writing aside I am glad that we are getting a non squad jam arc. That said, seems like there will be fighting between teams before the super ai gets challenged (it is about time they settled that rivalry). The flashforward with Llen getting whacked seems to suggest that even the pro teams will have their hands full.

As for the bit between M and Pito.... to each their own.

I like most of the second season and the new scenario of trying to beat the super npc's holed up into a castle is exciting but I have come to look forward to the antics of the machine gun fanatics most of all. Those dudes are just completely unpredictable in a good way and surprisingly competent given their utter lack of tactical planning.

Yeah, the machine gun lovers are hilarious. They commit to having fun.

When they were holding up English signs, I am curious how much the joke is coming across in Japanese that it looks like a "Don't Dead Open Inside" moment. That they look more like idiots in the sense of writing the signs in stupid ways that could easily be misread as nonsense.

Episode 11 may be my favorite episode due to how fun it was to see the squads working together. They made some chunky progress too, even if they are now running out of time. I do wonder if something funky is going on with those npc's. Given it is Sword Art Online anything is possible but it looks like the ai does not know that it is an ai.

Episode 11

Late to the party. I watched a chunk of the first episode when it came out and I wasn't feeling it. But as time went by, my lack of participation nagged at me so I gave it a second chance and it took. Didn't take me long to get caught up. It's kind of fun watching what are basically nice characters being so bloodthirsty.

I'm not sure they are AI. Why would npcs need to have their speech translated? And not have the lip flaps match to boot (lol)? Also, lol at the idea that the AI couldn't read the machine gunners' signs (so the interface couldn't translate writing for the players behind the "npcs" (if that's what's going on).

They were indeed not ai at all, which is a fun twist that is for once not all that dark, though one soldier may now be traumatised due to Llen. I really liked the final episode and the second arc of the season. It was nice to see the teams working together for once and not go from jam to jam.

The second season as a whole I really enjoyed. There were some story fumbles but the characters are fun, the action is hectic and the story while inconsistent did deliver in some fun surprises to keep things from getting stale/predictable.

So yeah, I would welcome a third season (though hopefully it will not take another 6 years).

I thought for a second there it was going to go pretty dark, with an Ender's Game/SAO outcome. So I was glad that the guy she killed didn't die in rl. Smile

I think I liked this season best of the three though. Not sure where they'd go with it next.

Episode 12 (Femme Finale)

Yeah, that was fun. I'm rating the series 7/10 (Good) which is maybe a little bit generous, but what can I say? I like this band of trigger happy, bloodthirsty maniacs. Maybe next time around we will get the long awaited Llenn / Kirito battle... what? I'm the only one who wants this???
