I legitimately didn't know this could be illegal. I thought it's a "buyer beware" and "buyer's diligence" thing. Guess we'll see if this goes anywhere. Obviously if he made the card himself then that's completely different, but as of now, seems odd that the police are being so aggressively in his business.

A bit surprised that anything is actually being done. There are tons of people who have sold counterfeit cards for Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon, and just about any other TCG out there.

The reasons are either to falsify what is being sold or to make a cheaper alternative to the actual card. This seems more the previous than the latter.

Some may not know this, but some TCG cards are really expensive. The ones listed in this story aren't even the most expensive out there. MTG's The One Ring (001/001) sold for nearly $2.6 million to Post Malone a little over a year ago. Pokemon has a few of cards worth $100,000+. Yu-Gi-Oh! is no slouch either, with their Black Luster Soldier printed on stainless steel with an estimated value of nearly $10 million.

This is why cards are counterfeited so much. Perceived value of a card (does it look like an expensive card) and is it functional. Most counterfeiters try to sell cards that are easy to move and to those who don't notice the difference between a fake and the real thing. I've seen listings of very expensive cards going for a fraction of their actual value and the sellers claiming them to be the real deal. When a listing is for a lower amount than what it typically goes for it is either the person didn't do their research or didn't know what they had or they know exactly what their doing and using this method to get whatever money they can from those they scam. We all like to think when we find something less than expected that we found a deal, when in reality, it is more likely a scam.

So, buyer beware indeed.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to sell my totally legit 1st Edition Base Set Shadowless Holo Charizard PSA 10 for $1,000 on Ebay, and I have 10 in stock. I found them in box in my uncle's attic. He worked for Nintendo.
