Wait, since when has Studio M2 been Taro Maki's company? Both MAPPA & M2 are Maruyama's. GENCO is Maki's. If yall are going off that recent Pluto anime, Genco produced it, hence why Maki's involved as a producer.

ANN's Newsteam received an email on February 2 from N LITE, stating (emphasis mine):
Quote:
Mfinda, which was announced at the 2023 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, will be produced alongside producer-distributor powerhouse GKIDS, most recently in theaters with The Boy and the Heron, as well as Studio M2’s legendary anime producer Masao Maruyama (Tokyo Godfathers) and Taro Maki (In This Corner of the World) from Studio M2.

Though yes I can see on GENCO's page that Taro Maki is the president:
https://www.genco.co.jp/about/?lang=en

We'll contact N LITE about this, thanks for bringing it to our attention.

"The shared experiences of Black and Japanese people in Japan during WWII is a historical and cultural intersection that we've not yet seen on screen" - Didn't even know it was a thing!

"swashbuckling sci-fi/fantasy adventure series about two star-crossed magic-wielding warriors bound by love and grief" - My kind of series!

Well, there were african-american soldiers. And there were foreigners, americans even, living in Japan before and during the War. Small numbers, for sure. But existent. Mostly Caucasian or Japanese-American, I think.
