Does the Vatican know what the internet is and what people draw on it?

^I don’t think it took rule34 more than a day to get started
The Catholic church needs to rerelease the In the Beginning anime. Osamu Dezaki and the Bible AND Osamu Tezuka was an amazing mix. |

See, I knew that archdiocese in Mexico that denounced the Saint Seiya themed wedding was just being a hater.

There is no red, it's dark brown. And yeah, it's just mud on shoes

I'm not religious but I do believe that the conventional way of spreading a faith isn't as effective as before. And this is... ingenious!

I'm amazed at how popular this character mascto became in just a few days
I find this kind of amusing, I'm Catholic, I took Communion and everything, but I'm not super religious or anything, I think the last time I went to mass was when I was going to catechism almost twenty years ago. Without delving into religion, I have seen some rather funny reactions, more so in Latin American social networks that I usually frequent, because many people are mentioning the irony of the Church using an anime-style mascot, when long ago here in Latin America some Christian preachers said that anime was demonic or things like that, though to be fair I think that was more of Evangelicals instead of Catholics, I came from a majority Catholic country and never in my life I've heard anyone saying that Dragon Ball or Pokémon had hidden demonic messages or that Yu-Gi-Oh! cards were satanic or anything like that, though in other countries things were different. I think one of the biggest examples of how things changed is how Mexican TV channel "TV Azteca" aired a program in the late '90s where they claimed anime like Dragon Ball were a bad influence on children, using an uncensored hentai magazine as an example, but nowadays the same Channel shows plenty of anime and they even made posts about Japanese culture in their social media |

Cute but, that can't be convincing enough to convert me.
This makes the "God and anime on my side" meme into a surreal type of parody. My goodness. |

The Catholic mascot "Luce" has essentially the same name as the main devil girl from Atto's supernatural slice-of-life comedy manga Koakuma Meringue (The Pretty Little Devil Meringue, which, ironically, doesn't have a devil girl named "Meringue"), a manga that is mainly only known for being where Hikage Miyauchi, who also appeared in Atto's much more famous Non Non Biyori, first appeared.
(In English, the devil girl's name is usually Romanized as "Luche" or "Ruche" but I think her name is supposed to be the Italian word "Luce", meaning "light".) |

Can't wait until her whole squad travels to Rio and combines their powers to pilot Mecha Christ.

A lot of hardcore evangelicals think that anything not directly about Christ is a distraction at best or a temptation at worst. That's how you get situations like Dirty Dancing where dancing itself was considered evil which apparently was a very popular notion at one point, I haven't heard of that in awhile but there was an idea that any secular media was taking up valuable space for Jesus time. You mostly hear people complain about media nowadays because of things that have occult elements like magic, but it used to be very common to attack anything children obsess over. That's how you get something as milquetoast as Pokemon being called evil. |
