I think I'm only interested in watching a Shinobi movie if they include some of the crazy off-brand cameos from the likes of Godzilla, Batman, and the Terminator from the unaltered Japanese version of The Super Shinobi (Revenge of Shinobi) on the Sega Mega Drive (a Spider-Man impostor also appeared but Sega actually did get a license from Marvel Comics for North American releases of the game before they replaced him with an off-brand version in a pink suit).

I wonder if this will be like those 80's Hollywood ninja movies?

The most recent ninja flick that came to mind is that Ninja Assassin movie that IIRC didn't do well on the box office.

Personally I remember Shadow Dancer better than the original Shinobi.

Why not just release the games for current gen consoles and move on in life?

Sega is throwing every IP it has at the wall to see what sticks post Sonic 3.

My only question is if it will use Joe Musashi from the Genesis era, or Hotsuma and his scarf from the PS2.

Same reason Sega has in the last two years been licensing out IP’s for shows and movies ranging from Golden Axe (Comedy Central) to Comix Zone (development hell) to Eternal Champions.

It’s only a matter of time before we get a Persona movie announcement.

Because

A. They’ve already been doing that on and off with their IPs over the last 30 years.
B. One doesn’t stop them from doing the other.

Yeah that’s not going to happen. Especially when those cameos would only make sense to anyone that was fortunate enough to play the Japanese version of Super Shinobi and would be out of place either way.

Does that include the outdated tropes and stereotypes from that era too?

BadNewsBlues, I also would like Shinobi to be worthy of classics as Revenge Of The Ninja or even American Ninja 1 or 2. If the stereotype you mean is being 100% Awesome I Agree!
