Oooh. Definitely looking forward to this. I played the heck out of Bushidō Retsuden back in the day. One of the few RPGs I replayed with multiple characters to see all the unique scenes and CGs. It took all that the fighting games hinted at or briefly covered in backgrounds and endings, and fleshed it out.
If this new game is anything like that I'll love it.
A new Art of Fighting I'm less enthused over, but only because I feel like with Art of Fighting 3 they fairly conclusively finished Robert's arc after concluding Ryo's arc in the previous game. And as a fighting game I'm not sure I would enjoy AoF's mechanics anymore.

That’s why you come up with new characters/new stories and update creaky mechanics even if it leads to cauterwauling from people who hate change.

Sure. I'm not against it just not as excited over the prospect. New characters and stories in fighting games have disappointed me way more often than they impressed. That said, SNK does have one of the better track records there IMO. Hoping for the best.

That aside I know I’m perplexed by what made them decide to dust off this moldy oldy.
I know they’re making a Garou MOTW sequel but that game’s last entry was far more recent than AOF 3.
Also here’s hoping this doesn’t have AOF2’s bullshit balance.

Yeah, AoF was a series I enjoyed more for its single player content and poor balance was a big reason why. I can't imagine that sort of design would fly today, though. Not if they want the game to last more than a month before becoming a Discord fighter.
I can't remember where I read it, so it may be a fever dream but I vaguely recall an interview where a SNK dev said they planned to revive and build up numerous franchises. If so, fingers crossed we get another Last Blade.

A new Art of Fighting sounds nice and all.
My main problem is, the series suffers from having some really ridiculous difficulty. Doesn't help it plays really awkwardly.
Didn't play the first one, I'll admit.
Played AoF 2. My God, is this game busted with its stupid high difficulty, making it an unenjoyable experience for me, and its a real shame too, cause I really like Ryo, Yuri, Eiji, and King. They're all pretty cool, especially Ryo.
Played AoF 3. Was easier to play and more forgiving and I liked how fluid the animations were, but its the later parts of the game where it started to feel like 2, which became a problem for me again.
Yuri and King weren't playable in this, which was another problem.
After playing these, I can see why this series never took off and was fondly remembered the same way FF was.
So yeah, if you can SNK, if you're gonna bring back AoF:
Please, Dear God, please. Make it actually playable and not a pain in the butt to get through.
AoF 2 and Virtua Fighter 2(Haven't played the others in that series so I can't comment if they all play the same and are just as difficult)
are the only fighters I know where I have trouble really playing.

I want Ryo to be Mr. Karate. Even Dan Hibiki used that ego in SF5.

It would be interesting if the new Art of Fighting takes place around the same time as Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, so Ryo would in fact be Mr. Karate II, like he was in Buriki One. Maybe even implement some of the Buriki cast, like Gai Tendo & Silber, into the new game for the fun of it.
As for the mechanics of the new AoF, I will admit that the ki gauge feels like something that's diametrically at odds with modern fighting game logic, which tends to be very offense-focused & tries its best to not limit players in what they can do. Sure, the latest Samurai Shodown was able to stay true to the slower-paced style of the OG games, but I am curious as to how a modern day Art of Fighting will stay true to the style of the original trilogy.

Guessing the last Showdown did well. Kind of annoyed they took the free version off of Netflix, it was apparently buggy as all hell.

I didn’t even know they had a free version of the game on Netflix.
Or how they dropped the ball on quality.
