As I said before, Crunchyroll's Brazilian Portuguese subs for this show really seem to me like they were translated from English (lots of stiffness and awkward phrasing I usually don't find in a first-hand translation from Japanese), which would mean there are decent English sub scripts that Crunchyroll simply isn't being allowed to use in its streams. |

From the latest messages I guess the subs problem hasn't been fixed yet?

The subs are definitely still kind of 'loose' translations, and they never seem to translate on-screen signs, images of phones, etc, only the script itself. Is there any expectation it will be 'fixed', though? We're several episodes in now; I just figured this is what we're getting. |

Oh, it's fixed, if you watch the English dub. Top is from the EN dub. Bottom is from the JP dub. Notice the subtitles are off. All the episode titles and locales have been edited into English, while everything else is subtitled on the EN dub, the JP dub is left as is. ![]() |

For untranslated text I just use the Android Google Translate app, it's pretty good at reading things straight from the screen. Of course it's MTL, but better than nothing.

I don't watch anime (or any other media) dubbed though, only in their original language. ^^'

It sure seems like it. How often does Crunchyroll go back and fix broken or erroneous stuff like this? They did it for The Yuzuki Family's Four Sons when the bad subtitles kicked up a big thing, but with this situation going so long for DDDDDDDD, I'm assuming they're just stuck with what they've got. On a similar note, I was watching The Tower of Druaga recently and they have a DVD bonus episode in place of the second season's actual first episode, mislabeled with its title. I'm actually glad that bonus episode is there because it's great, but it's absurd to be missing an entire episode like that, and it's been that way since it was readded to the service it seems. I suppose I wonder if their hands are completely tied in these situations and they have to use what they're given, or if they could do something but...don't, for whatever reason. |

Was not expecting (latest episode) spoiler[Nakagawa (?) to become power-mad so quickly.] Can't entirely decide if it felt like a natural descent to me, or a bit rushed.

Richard, I love your work, but please take care to proofread - Kadode periodically becoming "Kodade" and Ouran being a "sky" (instead of shy) people-pleaser is a little distracting from the otherwise insightful reviews. Looking forward to the next one!
One detail that may be relevant here from the previous episode: spoiler["Isobeyan" the invader didn't only give Ouran the super-stimulant pill - it's mentioned that he gave one to Kadode as well, and it's heavily implied that unlike Ouran she didn't refuse to take it.] It's also worth pointing out that just like with "Episode 0", the running order in the anime was changed here compared to the manga - this whole flashback comes much later in the manga, where we get to know the older Kadode a bit more by the time it comes up. That said, I don't really hate this instance of reshuffling (unlike Ep.0) - some of it might come off a bit more unnatural now, but it might just make things hit harder later. As Richard correctly hints at in the reviews, there are a bunch of things with the characters that don't add up right now, and feel like unreliable narration with confusing timelines. That is not accidental. This story spends a lot of time throwing out small, seemingly unimportant details that often don't seem to fit. They will eventually, though. |

Nakagawa is the goofy chuunibyou. The spoiler[Light Yagami impersonator] is Koyama.
My guess is that she finally noticed the incongruous detail that was mentioned all the way back in episode 2, spoiler[talking about Kadode's former crush]. |

Is it just me, or did the subtitles finally get (partly) fixed starting with this episode? They still seem to be dubtitles, so the translations are sometimes a bit off what is (literally) being said, but at least the captions are there.
Otherwise, wow - another episode where the seemingly mundane continues to be so heartbreaking. There's a lot of exposition and worldbuilding here, but the way it's fed to the audience is really well done. I love that Ai gets to have her moment in the spotlight here, because she's probably the most ordinary person in the entire show, but little details of her life make her all the more relatable and the messed up world she lives in all the more real. I wish the Black Knight was in more of the story - he's such a good kid, in spite of appearances. |
